Screenshot: Official COVID-19 Information Center Phuket By The Phuket News PHUKET: The number of beds available for COVID-19 patients in intensive-care units (ICU) at Phuket government hospitals is nearing ‘critical’, Vachira Phuket Hospital Director Dr Chalermpong Sukontapol has revealed. If the number of patients needing ICU care continues to rise, patients at government hospitals may soon need to be transferred to private hospitals, or even to hospitals outside Phuket, Dr Chalermpong said. Dr Chalermpong revealed the news during a live broadcast at Vachira Phuket Hospital yesterday evening (May 9), joined by Phuket Vice Governor Piyapong Choowong. The B.117 variant which is more transmissible also often leads to Pneumonia. 10% of Phuket hospitalised cases are showing severe symptoms. At the government hospital, there are 200 beds available, but only 19 ICU beds for severe cases. ICU beds are already half full, and the number of pneumonia patients who may soon require those beds is growing quickly.
