Repatriation Flights for Thai Returnees from India

BANGKOK (TNA) – The Foreign Ministry prepared repatriation flights to bring Thai people back from India and assured it had measures to screen out the Indian variant of COVID-19.

Tanee Sangrat, spokesman for the ministry, said two flights were planned for Thai returnees from India amid its COVID-19 outbreak this month. One was set to carry 150 people on May 15.

The other flight was scheduled for May 22 and the registration of its passengers had yet to be concluded. The first repatriation flight next month would be on June 4.

I assume that no negative COVID test is required for Thai citizens. Yeah, that should be interesting…

Wonder if its a tape measure and an egg timer test that will be required ????

You are wrong as is the next idiotic poster. Test has been required for about 9 months for Thai citizens returning from India. Following is information from RTE Delhi FB for upcoming flight.

ผลตรวจ COVID-19 โดยวิธี RT-PCR อายุไม่เกิน 72 ชม. ก่อนเดินทาง

They are fleeing because the health care system has collapsed.  Take note.

Time to batten down the hatches.  Indian variant arriving soon at Suvarnabhumi, well it already has.  Take care folks.

So last time with the variant detected in the UK and then labelled by the Thais as the UK variant, no doubt this variant will stoke xenophobic behaviour even more, this time against the Indians. Based on the tragic spread of it in India, Thailand could become a disaster zone making the incompetence of allowing SongKran travel and the consequential spread of covid19,  look like a drop in the ocean. Hope not but the level of incompetence and lies here does not give me much hope.

I can't find the above quote on their FB page. I can see CoEs have been cancelled for all non Thais, but not much else. Any further pointers?

As I stated in previous post, requirement has been in place for about 9 months. Probably initiated by the Embassy staff at the time.

Never let facts get the way of a good Thaibash.

Please stick with the program.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the whole world "labelled" it the UK strain.

Except in the UK itself where it is known as the "Kent" strain. The Scots, Welsh and Irish refer to it as the English strain.

It is what it is.

Well it's odd because up until now I'd been under the impression Thais weren't required to test before departure. Maybe different in India? A lot were arriving and testing positive. There have been several outcries as to why it was so, but there we are.
