Probably the best car I ever owned. This was reliable, super fast, built like a tank, Cruise control, sooo comfortable leather interior. Loved it !

You never had trouble handling it? It was always rumoured to only be good in a straight line

had capris for years never had a problem with bends,

get your speed correct before the bend, get the correct gear, get the apex and accelerate out of the bend foot hard down.

My first after passing test in 1966.

Had a full width front bench seat and a column shift, so rumpy pumpy in the front was easy.

I then progressed onto a 6 cylinder Velox, YTD 313. Insurance was £6 a year, fully comp!

Amazing what can trigger memories.  When I was a kid my father's younger brother had one of them, also in black, and would often bring it to our farm, where we had a good workshop, to tinker with it.  I remember my father bending over the engine once and, forgetting about that wicked curve in the front of the bonnet, suddenly straightening up and cracking the back of his head against it.  Cue cursing from my father and howls of laughter from my uncle and I.   I must have been about 10 years old and hadn't remembered this for years till I saw your photo.  God knows what happened to the car since then, but my father and uncle are no longer with us, so every memory of them is a good one.

And not just a Z4 but the  full option top spec M40i one , close to 80.000 euros. Not sure how much is in Thailand with tax and everything.  What do you guys do for a living if you don't mind?

Want to make some good choices in my next life.

My first car was an Austin Metro.

You could take the thing apart and put it back together again with nothing but an adjustable spanner.

No good choices here - but I have always been a nerd and so, we have a software company.

Nothing very exotic. And at parties - the conversation about what I do rarely raises a 2nd question. Not that I get invited to many.

My first car. The big advantage was that is was a big car and after that any other car seemed like a go-kart. ????

In Thailand I don't have a car and don't want a car. 99% I ride my own motorcycles and seldom I use a taxi - no hassle with parking, etc.

Hasn’t anyone here had a Reliant Robin in the past?

I think it would be perfect to hear a Reliant story ????

I got a robin reliant story for you.

I was about 17 years old qnd a group of friends were at the park drinking a few cans of beer on a friday night when our friend Jeff and luke came aroung the corner in a robin reliant which had flames coming from the engine.

Anyway luke jumped out the passenger side without any problems but Jeff also jumped out and got his foot caught in the seatbelt

He ended up getting dragged down the road with the robin now engulfed in flames and us lot chasing it to help.

The Robin came to a stop .

Jeff managed to get away from the burning Robin.

Jeff liked to wear a muscle tshirt and levis we always called his Freddie mercury.

Funniest day of my life and scariest.

Robin was cremated.

the 2.8i was so fast i got where i was going before i left, i think good for about 125mph, 3.0 about 120mph,

during the 80's i drove lots of fast cars legally at very fast speeds one of the fastest was a vauxhall senator 132mph true speed.

I remember the Vauxhall senator at the time i had a Suzuki Gsxr and the police used to enjoy chasing us in those senators

The correct term is 'Birmingham screwdriver'

I've only ever owned one car, a 94 Honda Accord coupe, sold it before moving to Thailand.

It was a good car, easy to drive, good visibility, reliable, and owned it for 2 years and sold it for close to what I paid for it, think it was about 60k THB lol. Have looked at getting a car in Thailand, but no desire to drive in BKK so never pulled the trigger.

Pedro01 is just teasing the peasants..

But a real car nut won't pass on an opportunity to show off his baby.. even if it's a rather old baby.

Bought it new in 1981. It been in storage for 20 years, although taken out a couple of times when I was back in Canada.

These photos were taken the day before it last went back into storage.

Hope TransAm approves..

You are clearly not a peasant. Lovely car.

Seems to me there's something stylish about the older cars posted here. Now - I don't want to turn into my Grandad and say "these modern cars are rubbish" - but you gotta admit, there's a certain grace to them.

The problem is, I have never ever seen a Thai or even foreigner driving in Thailand with the roof down.

I had a BMW640d Cabrio before moving. Would have loved to bring it over.

Well - we can't for 5 days as the windows have been tinted and they roll down with the roof.

But you will see me with the roof down on Sunday mornings and in the evenings, when the wife let's me borrow it ????

Also - on the school runs no doubt.

Right now it's a bit toasty in the middle of the day.

Mine is in the shop right now as I sort of reversed it into a wall and decided to have a carbon fiber rear diffuser and a few other pimpcessories. Nothing major.

More refined than the wife's car and definitely more subtle.
