Thailand's chief of police Gen Suwat "Big Pat" Chaengyodsuk has reacted to demands from PM Prayuth Chan-ocha regarding implementation of the emergency decree in nine areas.

Suwat has ordered that gambling is to stop as it is one of the main reasons for the spread of Covid-19.

He noted that it was still going on in some places despite previous crackdowns.

He warned his men from the lowest ranks to the highest that they will face disciplinary trouble if they allow illegal casinos to operate in their jurisdictions.

He also called for a step up in the prevention of the movement of illegal immigrants across Thai borders.

Naew Na reported that 101 illegal migrants from Myanmar - 49 men and 52 women - had been deported from Chiang Rai in the north back to their home country with the help of authorities across the border.

Umm just one of the reasons? How about hi so night clubs with private rooms and people in government visiting for fun getting infected, boxing tournaments, over crowded prisons, allowing Songkran travel, and and and .

Suwat is just being ordered to crack down on gambling as a deflection from the main cause of the current explosion of covid which was, Allowing travel for songkran, and hi so plonkers in clubs partying.

That is a perfect display of a vertical finger point - Dix Points, Monsieur !

I thought the main reasons were married couples riding in cars together without masks on and people drinking alcohol while dining in restaurants.

Let's not forget the brown-clad escorts that brought in the wave that fed into those.

I BET noting will happen, frankly I'll  go all in

And it must be spreading with those bits of paper sold everywhere on 1st & 16th of the month.

that he can say this with a straight face makes him one of the premiere actors in thailand

Pity he couldn't foresee that over crowded prisons and other penal institutions are hot beds for the spread of the Covid... frankly i'm surprise that the army and navy didn't get their fair share of the virus in their ranks, or maybe they did but mum's the word...

Thought this was long time dealt with?

Where is your mask, Sir?

I think he's signalling that he'll let it ride on the roulette wheel with number 1.

Gambling? In Bangkok? I'm shocked.

Look what "fell off the truck"....

What he actually means by illegal casinos are the ones not run by the BIB ...

These tables are easy to get in Isarn. The fact is that police control all the gambling in Thailand and Prayut is not going to stop it. I expect that police will need paid more soon, which will probably mean local clubs will have to make cutbacks. I hope it is not the neck massage pretties.

Legalize and regulate. Plenty of evidence out there that it can be done correctly. Give the citizens what they want and eat up those yummy tax dollars baht.

I’ve seen gambling up in Isaan with those board games , 50,000 b pots tooo, it’s a Problem , all those bar girls sending money home and LOST , I let my gf go and gamble and  I watched 5,000 a game and then we broke up , It’s out of control, you don’t need a gambler in your life

They had a false sense of security as they had allowed Farang New Year travel and they didn't have any large increase in infections. Allowing it to go ahead breathed life into many businesses that were on their last legs.

Unfortunately the highly contagious UK strain got in to Thailand and is now making up 98% of new infections and spreading like wildfire.

Their big mistake was to underestimate the severity of the B117 strain.

Help from Burmese authorities?? Probably arrested by the Burmese Military and carted off to detention camps.

For reference and take note Prayut:-

MAY 14, 2021 — 10:30AM

BANGKOK — Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha promised a United Nations special envoy on Friday that he will not force back people fleeing violence in neighboring Myanmar, where the military ousted a democratically elected government in February.

Which neck are you referring to, asking for a friend...

What are the odds of this not being implemented properly?  ????

"Thailand's chief of police orders officers to get tough on gambling".

Who will get tough on the chief and other senior officers on abetting and profiting from gambling.

If they disbanded their morality police and moved them all to traffic enforcement, provided them a patrol car, and sent them off to issue moving violation citations - think of all the road carnage that could be avoided.
