PHUKET: Phuket Governor Narong Woonciew has joined the call for people to not panic over officials issuing a “temporary suspension” of assigning vaccination appointments for those registered as living outside Phuket.

Speaking at a meeting of the Phuket Communicable Disease Committee at Provincial Hall yesterday (May 24), joined by all three Phuket Vice Governors Phichet Pana[ong, Piyapong Choowong and Vikrom Jakthree, Governor Narong noted that the number of people not living in Phuket who had registered through the ‘Phuket Must Win’ web portal to receive the vaccine on the island numbered as many as 30,000.

Concerns had been raised that people not registered as living on the island being vaccinated through the Phuket campaign could affect the number of vaccine doses allotted for Phuket being available in order to reach the goal of vaccinating 70% of the island’s population so that Phuket could reopen to receiving fully vaccinated tourists from July 1.

There was no plan to prevent this?  No checking papers?

The Thai ID card contains the applicant's complete address. One would think that a quick lookup of the address associated with the ID number could have been performed during the online registration process to verify Phuket residency status before accepting the application.

At least part of the issue is Prayuth. He is not only showing an extreme absence of leadership at this point, he is spoiling everything he touches. Same applies to the "so called health minister" Anutin. It would have been far better to keep him away from anything related to vaccines, covid, etc. The level of distrust in this administration and in them, grows by the day. So, get someone competent and trustworthy in charge, and the people just might believe. They are despised like never before. Thailand has no hope of ever moving forward, while the dinosaurs are still in charge. Get out. Get out now. Let the youth of the nation have their turn. Resign now!

The plan SHOULD have been to have enough vaccine for all who want it, in EVERY, province. Then you wouldn’t get this “province shopping” in an effort to get vaccinated.

the plan is just too unco ordinated.

A huge drive to get people to register spotted about the country, little or no vaccine in some, more in others, registration not timed to coincide with the availability of large volumes of vaccine, target groups chopped and changed and in any case vary according to province, variable and/or misleading information given about the availability of vaccine.

it’s a mess at the moment and hence the free for all.

<snip>

I don't think it's as much "province shopping" as it is people who actually live and work in Phuket being unable to receive the vaccine because they're registered in a different province. Not a problem for those working for large companies/hotels which can "sponsor" them for the vaccine, but for those working in smaller businesses or mom and pop operations, it can be very difficult.
