Fully vaccinated taxi drivers now have ‘Vaccine’ sign on vehicle

With a green illuminated sign that reads “Vaccine” installed on top of the car, taxi drivers who have been fully vaccinated are earning more during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Managing Director of Smart Taxi, Piset Thinnakorn na Ayutthaya, who came up with the idea of the sign, explained to Thai PBS that it is aimed at building confidence among commuters and encouraging taxi drivers to get inoculated.

As most taxi drivers have only received one dose of the vaccine so far, only two taxis in Bangkok are currently displaying the sign. Since Monday (May 24th), the two drivers have attracted more passengers, which has increased their income, to an average of 600 baht per day.

Its just a matte of time before one can buy it at Lazada.

How the hell could a taxi driver be fully vaccinated?  This is more corruption.   It take jas 16 weeks after your first shot to get the second.   Government putting out more lies.  Seem like Trump is in charge of the shots and of course Trump doesn't lie.

define "fully vaccinated"

Okay, that's the driver safe (actually not as no-one has had two jabs, but let's leave that aside for now). What about the air breathed out in the taxi from any passengers that might be carrying the virus? Why are Thais never, ever, able to think anything through?

Nice to see Prayut on top of things, he really is in control.

Not that taxi drivers lend out their vehicles when they themselves are off duty. I mean the photo always matches the driver, right?

More signs available on alibaba, proof of jab not required for purchase. Just money.

Its like the hackneyed phrase 'heavily armed. Without a reference definition it is meaningless.

Tomorrow, I expect to see reports of 'farangs' walking the streets wearing 'ATM' signs on their heads.????

Calm yourself down man, they only claim two taxi drives have had a second shot.

Actually around 60,000 people have now had both shots - taxi drives were amongst the first in the queue when they start rolling out the very first vaccines.

But yeah yeah, more corruption, blah blah, Trump, yawn.  zzzzzzzzz

They are not saying "It is impossible to contract Covid in this taxi" are they?  Of course passengers can be infected by other passengers, don't be ridiculous.  They are only saying the driver is fully vaccinated - surely a good start.

But yeah, go ahead and slate an entire nation of people for your own ridiculous misinterpretation of something pretty obvious.

(Oh, and to your other point, 60+ thousand Thais have now had two jabs, not zero).

So what is the point of stating that the driver, and the driver alone, is safe? Ridiculous. No point at all in that.

Not bad out of 69 million, hmm? That leaves just 68,940,000 to go.

"... so far, only two taxis in Bangkok ..."

Two Vaxis ...

Just another shameful means nothing gimmick !

Total contradiction, in one breath its "fully vaccinated" then its ONLY received first shot. !

So you can't even believe the damn sign, typical.

Bet just about any driver can buy that sign if he wants to. Pointless gimmick.

Whats the odds some enterprising Thai starts printing stickers for them to add soon .

If one is following the news, as of last wednesday 1.4% of population was now fully vaccinated. That is 940,000

I see that the report today is 1,000,000+ are fully vaccinated.

Vaccination started 1st week of march with 200,000 Sinovac and 117,000 Oxford Astra Zeneca.

Taxi drivers and lower caste Thais are most likely receiving  China vaccines. Thailand is administering china vaccine at interval of less than 4 weeks between 1st and 2nd dose.  Where do you get 16 weeks?

Only 2 drivers are fully vaccinated.  Did you know that there are 140,000 licensed taxis in Bangkok?

Because they are given Sinovac, which is about 3 weeks between jabs.

Plenty of people have had two jabs. Heck, even I've had one already!

Because if you as a traveller, or as a family, have to spend time in an enclosed space with a driver you would surely prefer to know your chosen one has been vaccinated.   Not hard to understand really.  Lessens the risk for you somewhat, no?

I wasn't commenting on the pace of the roll out at all.  Thailand is behind many countries on that but reports today say one million are now fully vaccinated so the roll out is gathering pace and this should be welcomed.

Not that I expect you to welcome anything as you would prefer to see the negative in anything Thai.

A massive 60,000, according to another poster. Out of 69 million. I'd call that a miniscule number, rather than plenty.

You just don't get it, do you. The driver is only one of probably dozens of people that have been breathing out in his taxi. He is safe, but there is no certainty that any one or more of his passengers are. None at all. The sign displayed, like so much in Thailand, is simply for show (like Safety First on building sites) and for practical purposes it means nothing at all. It's an empty gesture and would only appeal to the gullible.

I think you are the one who doesn't get it.  It is obvious that it just means the driver has been vaccinated, they are not promoting the taxi as an impenetrable Covid fortress where the disease can't exist.  That claim is only in your mind.  The rest of us can make logical assessments quite easily.

I agree with the previous poster. The taxi drivers are hurting bad. There is no reason for them to pay money for a sign unless they think it'll increase business. The Vaccine sign is meant to make people feel safer and increase their revenue. However there is no guarantee the sign means the driver has been FULLY vaccinated nor that if they are it'll protect you if you weren't. The sign is another Covid folly like temperature checks and check in apps. The vaccination drive in Thailand is currently random and insufficient so better to wear a mask in taxis if you personally are not fully vaccinated.

If, as we both agree, the taxi isn't Covid-safe, then what is the point of the sign. Saying that the driver alone is 'safe' is pointless.
