Mrs friend has a Belgian bf, applied for a visa refused, also refused before applying to Germany. She has a kid and a house she has a mortgage on but no full time employment. The same reason for refusal, not convinced she will return. She can appeal within 30 days but with the same profile I imagine another refusal and no idea how long an appeal takes. She seems genuine so would it be best to forget the appeal and go for  country which is more likely to grant a visa? AFAIK she has never been a sex worker.

Is she taking the child to Belgium? If so it might look like she's trying to do a runner. Also, if she could find a job and then get a letter from her employer detailing the date when she is expected to return to work, it might be taken more seriously.

How she is paying a mortgage with no job sounds weird to me so it probably raises suspicions with the Belgians too.

To be honest, you should just tell the truth about everything and give as much detail as you possibly can. They will look at what you provide and make a decision. The more information you provide, the more likely they are to trust you and believe that your wife isn't just going to throw away her passport and work illegally in Europe. Think about it from their point of view.
