webfact
Thailand’s Excise Department transferred five officials to another office on Thursday, putting them under investigation for reportedly seeking a 12,000-baht fine over a 500-bottle order of freshly squeezed orange juice. “Excise officers are not permitted to harass people in the manner of entrapment during the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Lavaron Sangsnit, the department’s director-general. Public outcry emerged when a Bangkok store owner posted on Facebook this week that she received an order of 500 bottles of fresh orange juice worth around 6,400 baht only to realize she had been set up. Popular Post asiam110
Wouldn't you suspend them (until evidence fully established for termination and possibly referral to criminal prosecutor) rather than transfer to another office? Thai logic really escapes me.. Edited June 17, 2021 by asiam110

klauskunkel
Quote The officials have been moved from Excise Office Bangkok Area 5 to Area 10. Area 10 will now be fined for producing too many officials without a license.

I suppose one theory is that corruption is so ingrained in the essence of Thai society its not considered sackable - otherwise they would have to sack the whole civil service. 1

Bangkok Barry
Their punishment should have been to make them drink the entire 500 bottles in one sitting. That's 100 bottles each. Why not?

Quite simple really; these individuals know the people above them are skimming in every way possible as well and if they come down hard on this bunch they will most likely open their mouths and a huge can of worms. They all look after each others interests from top to bottom; that way nobody gets badly hurt !
