Hundreds of vaccinated Indonesian health workers get Covid-19, dozens in hospital despite being vaccinated with Sinovac

According to the OP's ThaiPBS world link:

Quote

...  the number of Indonesian healthcare workers dying from COVID-19 has dropped sharply from 158 in January to 13 in May
...
Indonesia grappled with one of Asia’s worst outbreaks,  ...  its doctors and nurses have suffered a heavy toll of 946 deaths. ...

...

at least five doctors and one nurse have died from COVID-19 despite being vaccinated, according to LaporCOVID-19, although one had only received a first shot. ...

So only 5 died after being vaccinated, and 941 died who were not vaccinated (or who only received one shot).  5 vs 941.

Clearly the vaccine is not 100% effective, and I think it common knowledge there are vaccines with higher efficacy,  but I see a massive difference between 941 deaths (not vaccinated) as opposed to 5 (vaccinated).

Indeed it's all good , so long as one isn't one of those that died after taking a medication that was supposed to stop them dying.

Given that the companies that make the stuff are immune from prosecution, do the people that died get any compensation?

compensation won't do any good when you are dead

People seem to discuss the relative performance of vaccines in the same way they talk about cars.   "This one accelerates to 60 faster than that one, but that one has standard fit air bags plus navigation".

The simple truth missed by most the Google Immunologists is that the immunity is created by the person, and the vaccine is just a trigger.

Your age, health, exposure to similar viruses, diet and quality of sleep are at least as important as the type of vaccine.

With the possible exception of some vaccines that are poor triggers, like the German one, it makes little difference which one you have.  And due to differences is testing methods and the trial populations, comparing one vaccine with another is extremely difficult.  That's why the WHO has a simple 50% hurdle - above that; probably good enough, below; probably not ..... but how far above is irrelevant when you consider all the other factors.

The report in the OP looks to support this - most were asymptomatic, few developed serious illness.   But I bet health workers were not given 2 weeks off work to develop immunity, and I also think their sleep patterns may be less than ideal.

Another factor is that some of the 'preferred' high tech vaccines are highly specific to a small part of the virus - which will mutate, potentially making the vaccine ineffective as the trigger.  But the old school vaccines that use the whole virus may be more resistant to RNA mutations.

Simple rule of thumb ..... if you need to use Google for your information about vaccines - you will not fully understand the information.

JGAFV    Just Get Any Vaccine

..... so the economy can recover.

Given no other vaccines were likely available - what do you think they should do ? Take no other vaccine and wait what ? 4 more months? 6 more months? and have another 941 die and not just 5 die?

I think no one is happy with the 5 dying ...  and we are all saddened by such, but it is a LOT better than 941 more dying, given higher efficacy vaccines were pretty much monopolized by other (wealthier) countries for the first half year in which the vaccines were available.

Even more clearly, after the first vaccine shot with Sinovac the protection ist only minimal but many people don't know this and relax their precautions.

Chinese vaccine! Considering the other shoddy products they have foisted on the world, is one surprised?

actually, this article proves that the vaccine is incredibly effective.

More than 350 doctors and medical professionals have contracted Covid-19 in Indonesia despite the majority of healthcare workers having been immunized with Sinovac”

there are over 40,000 doctors in Indonesia and 350,000 nurses, so 350 out of 390,000 is only 0.09% which is amazing

“Dozens of these were hospitalized, officials added”

let’s say it’s 3 dozen, 36 out of 390,000 is 0.01%

Infections among Hospital Workers in the Greater Jakarta Area,
Indonesia: A Cross-Sectional Study

There are multiple factors there.

Sinovac does very little after the first dose. Obviously better after the second dose.

As said, medical workers are heavily exposed.

Also, Delta. It seems clear that Sinovac isn't great for Delta.
