Thailand on Tuesday (July 6) reported 5,420 new COVID-19 cases and 57 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.

● 5,383 new infections

● 37 prison / prison infections

Tuesday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 294,653 with 2,333 deaths.

(Total infections since April 1: 265,790)

The news comes as Thailand’s Department of Disease Control (DDC) has noted that the COVID-19 situation has been aggravated by viral mutations since April, with the spread of the Delta variant.

I sure hope that is a step in the right direction, rather than the result of a lack of testing.

--The 57 deaths reported Tuesday ties for the second highest daily toll of the pandemic.

--The highest daily death toll was 61 on July 2, and today's second highest total was matched by 57 deaths also reported on July 1.

--The 5,420 new cases reported Tuesday is the lowest daily figure since the 4,786 tally reported on June 30, and comes in the wake of three 6,000+ case days in the past week.

--However, the 5,420 new cases count today still is roughly double the daily case counts in the mid 2,000s that Thailand was reporting one month ago in early June.

--Today's 5,420 new cases once again far exceeds the day's number of reported recoveries (3,586), meaning yesterday's record high number of 63,520 hospitalizations will climb again when reported later today.

Further update:

Thailand sets new pandemic records today for COVID hospitalized patients in critical condition and the share of those on ventilators -- 2,350 in critical condition and 643 of those on ventilators.

The prior high for those in critical condition was the 2,199 reported just yesterday. The 643 on ventilators surpassed the prior high of 616 reported on July 4.

Total COVID hospitalizations also set a new record, with 65,297 COVID cases hospitalized in some kind of facility -- regular hospitial, field hospital, or "hospitel".

Rolling 7 day average (up to 4th July only) which includes prison cases and bar chart of community cases.

I like the optimism, but is it inspired by the number falling below 6000 for the first time in a few days? Sadly, a number that likely includes the weekend and part of the usual 'noise' in the number.

The Intervac website has been updated with the promise of vaccines becoming available for foreigners age 60 and above and those with chronic medical conditions:

This time, the latest version appears to abandon having foreign nationals make appointments online at the government website, and instead appears to be directing foreigners to contact and book appointments directly thru the two hospitals.

Her reply..."no be stupid they only test little bit"

And what about all those who live nowhere near Bangkok and are out in other provinces. Has to be the most shambolic vaccination programme ever not helped by the disastrous procurement, or not, of the necessary vaccines.

Last Tues and Wed numbers dropped. Let's see what happens tomorrow and Thurs. For my mind the spread is in it's infancy. Now being said that Delta is down south and has been detected in 47 provinces.

Exactly.  The website concentrates on only two hospitals in central Bangkok.

Those that live outside of central Bkk and especially those with underlying health conditions, are they going to travel to central BKK?

Pathetic.

There have several articles today and yesterday in BP talking about how hard it is to get tested in Thailand for Covid at the moment.

Todays numbers in no way whatsoever reflect reality.

Thailand is Bangkok.................with bits added to its periphery...........like the UK is England with bits added on.

But relating to Bangkok, yes, it is Bangkok, and only Bangkok, the rest is snakes and green stuff.

With those people unable to get tested and are positive, remaining in the community spreading the virus among family, friends and close contacts.

I am 66 years old and luckily with no underlying conditions. But I am certainly not driving for 6 hours just to go through that rigmarole. Our local hospital, where I am registered, has had one out of five days of vaccination before running out. beginning of June. There has been no sign of any further vaccinations since, of for the foreseeable future.

IF they follow past practice in this new round, the two Bangkok locations will allow people from other provinces to register and receive vaccines with them....

But yes, it remains disappointing that the central government still hasn't expanded their official vaccines route to include any locations outside of BKK.

The government's spokeswoman made it clear yesterday in public comments (if they actually do what they say they're going to do) that they're going to have a push on during July to vaccinate the elderly and medically vulnerable in Bangkok during July (she was talking mainly about Thais), with older people in most other provinces likely having to wait until August.

I wonder what happened to using the MedPark hospital and if it affects the second vaccination many of us have been scheduled for.

Well, I will not be holding my breath on that happening. She did not mention August of which year did she?

Not a term I am familiar with, nor even heard when doing my A-Level Maths....... I must learn to know my limits.

Just wondering, have you made enquires at your local health facilities as to the chances of being vaccinated ?
