PHUKET: The heavy downpours that have strafed the island since yesterday saw wet roads overnight leading to several accidents on Phuket roads.

Rescue workers were called to the curve on Thepkrasattri Rd near the Tha Reua Shrine, just south of the Heroines Monument, at 4:15am, where a car had slid on the wet road surface and hit a road sign bedside the road.

Police and rescue workers arrived to find a Phuket-registered Honda City sedan had suffered heavy damage after hitting a sign.

Situation normal

As usual, blame the weather/road conditions instead of the imbecile drivers who are unable to determine the conditions and drive accordingly.

Ask a Thai about breaking distances in different weather conditions, OK dont ask

I suggest scattering sand from the box to improve traction.

In any conditions. All you'd get is a blank stare.

Brakes what Brakes....asking for a friend's dog again....you meant Accelerator peddle right?

4.15 AM, why am I not surprised.?

Any tread left on the tyres (before the accident I mean)

None of this is covered or mentioned in their education it is only pedal to the metal, when it rains the faster they go because they actually think the rain wouldn't have time to touch and get them soaked!  Only in Thailand?

It doesn't help that they don't use headlights in the reduced visibility.

Wet roads cause accidents? No, poor driving on wet roads causes accidents.

Every wet season I remind my Thai relatives about Aquaplaning. The response is a blank look.

This braking distance statistics which is used, or used to be used in the UK is a load of bullsh!t. When you are driving in wet conditions, you do not have the time to do maths calculations in your head, you have to use common sense which sadly lacks in most Thai drivers.

Many don't use them at night out in the sticks.

Yes. Either that or they don't work anyway. It's one of the reasons I'd rather not drive on unlit roads at night since if you overtake you've no idea if someone is coming the other way with no lights. One of our friends lost her husband that way.
