Cambodia’s COVID-19 situation at alarming level with rising numbers of imported cases mostly from Thailand at 475

The number of imported cases of COVID-19 to Cambodia rising steadily to alarming levels though security along the border on both sides of the Thai and Cambodian border have been stepped up.

 

In Monday’s announcement of case numbers,  475 cases out of the total of  778 new infections this morning were imported cases, predominantly from Thailand. Thailand too faces a similar case of imported COVID-19 infections daily, with returning Thais from Cambodia being tested positive but their numbers are far smaller.

 

Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in end January 2020, a total of 9,152 imported cases of the deadly virus has been logged. The situation has gotten more dire with rising number of Cambodians returning from Thailand, legally and illegally through various border provinces, primarily Oddar Meanchey’s O’Smach International Border Gate.
