As COVID-19 rages in Southeast Asia, regional governments are racing to roll out their national vaccination programmes. In the second part of a series, CNA looks at how Thailand has been hamstrung by an uncertain vaccine delivery schedule.

BANGKOK: When Thailand rolled out its COVID-19 vaccination programme on Feb 28, it was launched with a professional sheen.

Anutin Charnvirakul, the health minister, took the first jab with a smile in front of cameras. He flashed the victory sign as the Chinese-produced vaccine from Sinovac was injected into his arm. The historic moment was broadcast live on television and applauded by Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, who was standing close by.

“The vaccination today made me confident that everybody is provided with care, which has a good standard and efficiency,” Gen Prayut said. “It shows our readiness to vaccinate the public. So, please rest assured.”

National program?  Started in February?  Pure bull appendage hanging from the bottom of his torso.

Been saying it all along , the problem isn't vaccinating the people , it is the supply . They can aim for vaccinating everybody in the next week , but if you got only 10.000 , then not much is gonna happen. And the extra problems are huge , since there is a big outbreak , which is impossible to solve with vaccinating ( vaccinations take time to work ) and B anything you didn't order long time ago , you just won't get in a timely manner . Anything ordered now , is barely starting delivery this year . Any which way the dice rolls , Thailand is gonna go through a very rough time for next months . If all people realise that , then they will avoid eachother and the wave can be controlled , and give time to get more people vaccinated .

Every day is now 'Groundhog Day'. Same story as yesterday.

I saw vaccination centers closed, yet death fails to take the holiday.

Professional sheen ?

More like professional greed.

The news has been beyond ridiculous for a year and a half.  And this has been the worst story of them all.

Arrogant.  Childish.  Outrageous.

No shortage of pricks in the gov so you would think there should not be the shortage there is!

Oops, silly me,aged submarines from China and other boys toys was the first priority.

LOS = Land of Sheen. Another Hub

Thailand's COVID-19 national vaccination programme hit by excuse overload, uncertain of having clue.

There - that's better

And this is news?

The government should take full responsibility for what a terrible job they have done ordering vaccines the rollout and everything that is incorporated with giving the vaccines to people living in Thailand I’ve been trying for months I’ve registered on two different websites and so far nothing TIT

Another article for the 'DUH' fie.

As with most things in Thailand there exists a thin veneer, scratch the surface and underneath you expose the real Thailand.

In the meantime form a few committees to discuss buying more vaccines.  Once decided wait months to sign a contract.

The longer you wait the farther you get in the que.

What you get when you put "a nut in" charge

The only certainty of the whole Covid drama in Thailand is the ineptness and corruption of the Grandmaster Prayut and his bagmen

I can't understand the point of endlessly recycling such 'news', especially when the daily reality belies it so glaringly.

It's like the almost daily reports of 5m doses of Moderna being ordered, as if we are supposed to believe that at this point there are over 50m doses on the  way to the Kingdom all procured by the ceaseless efforts of the Klowns in Kakhi.

Or the biweekly breathless announcements of hospital/national registration sites opening to expats over 60.

Are we being force-fed a crash course in cynicism? A belated attempt to quell the wildly swelling popular support for official vaccination efforts? A news flash that got to print 5 months late? The aging starlet who hides in a darkened basement getting drunk and watching re-runs of her greatest hits?

The truth is it's probably time to stop reading the pandemic "news" and avoid the daily dirge of escalating infections/hospitalizations/deaths/arrests/lockdowns/quarantines.

I remember it well. I cried with emotion as the event was beamed around the globe. If I forget 9/11 I shall never forget this.....????
