BANGKOK (NNT) - The Social Security Office (SSO) is preparing to take legal action against those behind the publication of fake news concerning its issuance of assistance to Section 40 social security holders.

Deputy spokesperson to the SSO, Flt Lt Supaporn Uwattana refuted the claims made in the fake news piece that people who applied to be a Section 40 social security member would waive their right to the Gold Card universal healthcare program and state welfare, calling the report false and designed to cause confusion. She assured the community that no such loss of privileges would be imposed on Section 40 holders.

The spokesperson added that regular payments as a Section 40 member would actually unlock further privileges such as compensation for injury, subsidies for having a child and a pension. It was made known that the SSO Secretary-General Todsapol Krittawongwiman has ordered an investigation, and that charges be filed with the Technology Crime Suppression Division of the police.

Section 40 social security members affected by COVID-19 measures imposed on 29 provinces are to receive 5,000 baht in assistance funds directly transferred into their Prompt Pay accounts.

If Flt Lt means Flight lieutenant then I am not sure why a person of this position/rank/career is Deputy spokesperson of The Social Security Office ????????

Spokesperson doesn't exactly scream "power and influence".  More like someone whose lips move, and we can blame the misunderstanding on if our message isn't well received.

Deputy spokesperson sounds like fodder for tossing under the bus.

A lot of threats to take legal action these days, more than usual.

It's in the handbook used to silence free speech.

The ruling clans are obsessed with the ephemera of military rank and status. Even relatively lowly ranks are clung to grimly! It also goes some way to explain the profusion of medals, and assorted wings and qualification badges worn at every opportunity.

After all, take all that away and all you have got is a "spokesperson".

That is the problem when talent, ability, public service and credibility, both for the agency and the individual, are not in the equation!

Gold braid in every position... you think the government has been idle for 6 years....

Regulation regarding fake new has been cast down by the courts. Regulation is unlawful. Tough <deleted>, son. Man up and take freedom of speech.
