Cambodian Justice Ministry spokesman blasts a western country for failing to accept Afghan refugees

A senior Justice Ministry official lashed out at a Western country known as human rights and democracy champion for failing to accept Afghan refugees. Ministry of Justice spokesman Chin Malin wrote on his Facebook post, criticising the western country over its refusal to accept Afghan refugees directly.

 

The reaction seemed to refer to the US. The government announced last week that it agreed to receive about 300 Afghan refugees temporarily due to humanitarian reasons.

 

The announcement was in response to the request made by an international organisation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Malin said that Afghan refugees were temporarily accepted by other countries and are awaiting approval from third countries to grant them asylum.

Cambodia has agreed to accept 300 refugees temporarily. Perhaps they asked a western country to take the 300 after a short period in Cambodia and that unamed country refused.

He might refer to Austria. I never understood why EU or other countries should take so called refugees when the immediate neighboring countries even refuse.
