Sanook reported that a website called Nong P3 had reported a post allegedly from the Dark Web claiming to want to sell data after a hack of Thailand's Ministry of Public Health database.

They were prepared to sell 146 files containing the data of 16 million people for $500 or just over 16,000 baht.

The data included addresses, telephone and mobile numbers, ID numbers, dates of birth, fathers' names and hospital information in both Thai and English.

Sanook said that the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society had contacted the MoPH to investigate and the post had now been taken down.

The media indicated that many people online were treating the story as a joke.

Thailand’s DES ministry has admitted that 16 million patient records from the Public Health Ministry have been hacked and an investigation is underway.

The ministry’s cyber department has been informed that the records, including patient registration numbers, full names, home addresses, phone numbers, their doctors’ names, names of the hospitals and medical records, have been compromised.

The department will check the cybersecurity system at the Public Health Ministry to see whether it is up to standard, as well as hunt down the hackers for prosecution, in accordance with the Computer Crime Act.

Yeah, we're screwed, not that it was unexpected, as some of gave a vast trove of personal information away in an effort to secure a vaccine, registering with every "government" program.

I'm already seeing a ramp up in cold/robo calls, texts and emails.

This is like a 156th hack since I moved here 8 years ago. I truly never understood the magnitude of how 3rd world this country is until covid struck.

I'd say a failed state, but it was never really unfailed to begin with.

What 16 million COVID patients?

Have you seen 16 million COVID patients?

I think they mean 16 million medical patients. Which probably translates to all patients in the system.

I was worried for a minute that some of my pics in the buff were compromised... but no such luck...

Technology expert Prinya Hom-anek explained that the system has loopholes, which allowed the hacking to occur, and the only way to prevent a repeat is to set up a password so that hackers cannot access the information.

I do hope something was lost in translation.............

Who checks the MSM outlets that the fact checkers say publish only 'the facts.'  Nowadays 'facts' are fungible.

@Pravda Have you noticed how the New Normal news media now shares similarities to Soviet era Pravda?  ????

It's not like they need to hack OnlyFans.  ????

MOPH Shouldn't be running a knock off copy of Windows 95 from Pantip Plaze secured by the password 12345. Opps now I've told everyone.

To Mr. Anutin:

here is a popular password you could use, if you wanna make an effort: 123456

(I'm convinced other agencies are using it already...). It's quite secure, really.

user = root      password = password   or

In the linked Sanook and Thai PBS articles it said files were for patients. Not a single mention of Covid.

Hmmm, never paid for the PRO version then.....????

Dealing with sensitive patient data. Recently it was Bangkok Airways, now 16 million hospital records. The inability of those responsible can no longer be surpassed.

Have credit card details and bank account details been hacked as well? An official reassurance statement would help.

Wasn't available when 95 was first released in Pantip and haven't had  a chance to update yet ????

Quote from the British Airways hack....'It estimated that “victim compensation could be up to £2,000 [$2,770] putting BA’s overall potential liability at around £800 million [$1.1 billion]”.

https://portswigger.net/daily-swig/british-airways-agrees-to-pay-victims-of-record-breaking-data-breach

That was 420,000 customers. This is 16 million affected people.

Bangkok Airways hack = "Solly"

MOPH Thailand (Anutin) = Silencessshhhhhhhhhh......

Well, the Ministry of Information must be overworked with blocking all those international websites which publish true and untrue stories, facts and figures about Thailand.
Those officers not busy with the above are closing all those websites of "ill repute" - understandeable they cannot also work on data security.

What a joking farçe!

Was it really a hack? As we have seen and brought to light by Richard Barrow that simply logging in exposed someone else's data. The only hack I see here are the hacks disguised as software developers trying to save face for their own stupidity as usual...  I wonder how much longer it will be before they blame it on Westerners for inventing the internet?
