Thailand reports 16,031 COVID-19 cases, 220 deaths

Featured Replies

Yet again we have a discrepancy in the figures.

Health officials on Wednesday (Sept 8th reported 129 new COVID-19 cases, 66 of which were found in Hua Hin.

Elsewhere in the province, 20 cases were found in Pranburi, 2 cases in Sam Roi Yot, zero- case in Kuiburi, zero-cases in Thap Sakae, 4 cases in Bang Saphan, 2 cases in Bang Saphan Noi, and 35 cases in Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan.

Sept 8: Prachuap reports 129 new COVID-19 cases, 66 cases in Hua Hin - Hua Hin Today English Newspaper Info, Reports, Events and News Social Life

Even allowing for 28 cases in Prachuap prison there is still a difference of 15. Not as bad as other times but still wrong.

  • The increase is too soon for the impact of fresh infections caused by the "opening" - are these the other side of the massaging of the figures - the release of old cases into the stats?

Gee, who could have predicted all of this with the premature reopening?   And it's only 9 September.

New emergency law planned as official says half the people in Bangkok may have contracted COVID

The Thai Council of State is currently reviewing a draft public health emergency law which will come to parliament in November to replace the Emergency Decree which is due to be rescinded. This may create a new body to replace the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) which may even be larger than the current government unit directing the country’s response to the crisis.

Looking at the linked article and reading this kind of does amaze me that that many have been possibly infected.  However, at the same time with many of those I know who in February and March of last year had long lasting cold like symptoms, along with a deep cough, which took over two weeks to go away, and then another month before I could return to even walking long distance at the park, it makes sense.  Back then when I tried to get tested I was told I could not as I did not meet the parameters at the time.  Then over the past few months having had family and friends come down sick and only be tested with the ATK tests you have to believe that this quote could be correct.

"An official with the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) has estimated that as many as 7 million people in Bangkok may have already contracted or had the COVID-19 virus. That is half the population of the Bangkok Metropolitan area which has a population of 14 million people approximately"

As was my mantra a year ago and is what i still believe "Test and you will find" i think is the truth.  Thailand for whatever reason decided to test very small numbers instead of mass testing throughout the country.  Yes many folks were able to survive while being at home, but this also allowed the virus to spread unabated.  Never once did the country try and get out ahead of the cases they were finding, and as such it created another issue as far as vaccinating folks.  They have now gone back into Khlong Toei where they had a large number infected almost 6 months ago, and they basically closed the slum area down for almost a month at that time while they did vaccinate those folks.  They are now seeing a large infection rate popping back up due to Delta.  As always stay safe and protect yourselves and family.  I will be getting my second AZ vaccine next week after 12 weeks between jabs, while many others have already been double vaccinated with the Pfizer and the Sinovac AZ combo.

The positivity rate yesterday was almost 40% from the very few tests they are doing.

Can you imagine the horror numbers we would be seeing if they were doing 1,000,000 tests a day like the UK.

Why are there still people dying at home. This just should not be happening now, still a lack of readily available testing and rapid hospital care can be the only reasons

That would be a great decision if we didn’t have all sorts of data from other parts of the world saying kids being in school represents no significant problem.

Approx 15- 20,000/ year for the past decade at a cost of approx 500 billion baht/ year……….and that’s apparently being selective with the numbers.

Gives it a bit more perspective.

Can anyone explain this? I just refreshed the page and it seems like walk-in's greatly increased. All other numbers are the same as reported earlier.

Tend to agree with you. I was in Thailand January and first week of February 2020, visited Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Pattaya as well as a trip to Laos. Last week of January came down with a persistent light cough and so did my girlfriend. Put it down to been in the highly polluted air of Bangkok and Chiang Mai for a few weeks. Flew back to UK where they weren't even worried about covid at beginning of February. Cough passed in a few weeks but couple of weeks later felt really lethargic, no motivation to do much, then noticed getting out of breath easily. Thought nothing of it but looking back and seeing how friends were after having covid I could quite possibly have had it then, picked up in Thailand.

It's all getting ridiculous -  this constant updating of inaccurate data that so many seem to take as truth. This thing, now unleashed from China is undoubtedly with us eternally so time to move on, accepting that fact, living as normally as possible. The looming catastrophe is this irrational  sole focus on this, to the factual detriment of myriad other conditions, most of which have graver consequences than this novo virus.

It has never been more important to take responsibility for personal health and fitness and not simply rely on vaccines of varying efficaciousness.

At some point it will be  time to stop testing, apart form sample genome testing to identify mutations that could potentially be more difficult to manage.

The chance of eradicating this new virus is zero.

Data is only significant if accurate and in context - UK can and and does test ad nauseum and can find 30 000 cases if it wastes resources and carries out half a million tests, or it could find a fraction of those cases if it tests incrementally less. Neither figure has any importance unless a govt is seeking to either terrify the timid or reassure them. Figures are politics not absolute science.

Time to move as there is a lot more to life, or there was until so many became so obsessed with this intractable problem.

Think about it just a little bit, when is the last time in Thailand that ICU’s were full and turning patients away, or hospitals had to close through lack of beds, or the whole health system was crippled in such a short space of time, times that by 10 if there had been no measures put in place. You may then come to the conclusion that you’re totally off base and comparing apples to oranges.

Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs refutes accusations of international vaccine non-cooperation

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Spokesperson has denied Thailand has refused COVID-19 vaccine cooperation with other countries, insisting that all its efforts are in the national interest.

Tanee Sangrat, Foreign Affairs spokesperson and Director-General of the Department of Information, says the allegations are unfounded in any way as the department does everything possible for Thais, and foreigners residing in Thailand, to ensure access to the vaccine as soon as possible, including facilitating an exchange of vaccines and receiving vaccine assistance from allied countries.

Everybody wants to move on but Thailand mucked up its vaccine procurement so in the meantime many of us do stay healthy, hope we don’t catch the virus and wait to get vaccinated. Those who are already vaccinated like myself need to be selfless and wait for all the others especially the at risk groups to also receive the life saving shot

Just keep vaccinating.

At the current rate of 667k jabs per day, Thailand will hit 70% fully vaccinated on December the 8th of this year.

Keeping in mind that Israel is a little above 60% and the states a little above 50%, this seems promising.

Although infections may keep rising, deaths should stagnate and go down soon.

But the question is where o where are they getting 20 million doses a month from ????

According to the Reuters article below, they should be getting more than 120 million doses by year end.

Quote

The delivery would bring Thailand's total vaccine supply for 2021 to over 120 million doses, of which 61 million from AstraZeneca and a combination of 30 million doses of China's Sinovac and 30 million from Pfizer-BioNTech

Thailand to receive 61 mln doses of AstraZeneca vaccine this year

Thailand to receive 61 mln doses of AstraZeneca vaccine this year

This is the latest estimate from the government on the 29th Aug. So long as they all arrive on time:

For the remainder of the year, Sept = 15.3m. Oct = 24m. Nov = 23m. and Dec = 23m.
