Public holidays that fall on Sunday will no longer continue on Monday

Dr. Ith Sam Heng, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, has stated that public holidays that fall on a Sunday will no longer continue to the following Monday after the National Assembly approved a request to amend articles of the law.On September 9, 2021, the National Assembly fully approved the draft law on the amendment of Article 123, Article 138, Article 162, Article 300, Article 343, Article 350, Article 363 and Article 367 of the 1997 Labour Law.

 

The Minister stated that the change is at the request of employers’ representatives and union representatives of the of electrical appliances, electronics, food processing, garments and footwear industries.

 

The Minister added that the change – which is already in place for civil servants – will increase productivity and strengthen the economic competitiveness of Cambodia. The new amendments will will give foreign investors confidence, boost the flow of private sector investment, as well as promote labour rights and harmony in industrial relations.
