Thai caption: "We just popped in for a bite to eat"

The spokesman for the Region 3 police went to extraordinary lengths to give a detailed "explanation" as to why a police party who got out of a police van were living it up on Cha-Am beach.

It was all a misunderstanding and all above board, said spokesman Pol Maj-Gen Phaisan Leusomboon.

A social media viral video caught the moment 7-8 people in civilian clothes piled out of the van on the beach and began playing guitar. Sanook went with the caption on a still shot that they had popped in for a bite to eat.

Instead Phaisan insisted they were on official business.

The van came from the Phon Krung police station in Korat and it had been officially booked for police business.

It had been headed to Surat Thani to arrest a man called Sawai for the murder of his wife Wanida and her stepson in 2011. (The story about the arrest of the local official appeared on ASEAN NOW last week).

Phaisan said that a request was made that the arresting officer from Phon Krung would be accompanied by people posing as tourists in civilian clothes so that they did not draw attention to themselves at checkpoints along the way. Region 8 was informed.

This seems to have badly backfired, notes ASEAN NOW.

While the entourage was travelling to Surat Thani to make the arrest they got word that Region 8 police already had Sawai in custody.

So they decided to double back and dropped in at Cha-Am on the way.

What could be more reasonable than that!

Yes, it was all a misunderstanding, said Phaisan, quite above board.

The most commonly used phrase to explain  “the rules don’t apply to us”.....

Why couldn't they just trust the local police to arrest the suspects on their behalf. Their practices are so murky even the Mafia couldn't figure them out.

Dressed as tourists that they didn't draw any attention 555

Arriving in a police van 555

Born stupid and stay stupid forever.

'Rotten to the core' comes to mind rather than 'misunderstanding'.

That intermodulation has nothing to do with electromagnetism.

Why is it a problem that police draws attention at checkpoints ? I mean they are police this explanation is not really convincing.

This kind of stuff only lowers the trust even more.

Then again using a van of the police or of a company private is not a huge crime. A chopper or a plane is different. A van.. not that big of a problem. But a lame excuse makes it look bad.

Just a strumming band of minstrels bringing happiness back to the people as the Good General instructed.  They just wanted to be seen as the new Hero's of Thailand.

So when the police set off to arrest someone do they always take a guitar with them? Or do police vans come equipped with a guitar as standard?

Why didn't he just do the usual and Deny deny deny ! I mean if Ferrari Joe can do it surely a higher ranked officer can

????????????????

This is the biggest load of Tosh i think I have ever heard in my life

farcical RTP

Another Muppet white wash, just as usual.

I wonder if they were playing songs by The Police!

Why not just say "We were on a jolly and we used the companies van. We are human after all and we just wanted a break".

its simply not the Thai way to admit the truth... protocol requires to tell a fanciful, totally over the top and unbelievable lie that everyone knows is a lie. Anything... absolutely anything is preferential than admitting the truth. Welcome to the circus!

How many times do we have to hear about this woman, Ms Un Derstandin. She is clearly up to her neck in wrong-doing of all kinds. Why don't they just arrest her and put her in jail now!

And they were going in numbers for the photo op.

So, instead of returning back to the police station and getting on with some "Police work", they decided to have a fun time at the beach (whist being paid) - Sure, that's all reasonable - what's different to any other day? ????

They used to carry mouthorgans, until that became misunderstood.

Maybe they were looking for 'a message in a bottle'  soo many others come to mind, 'Secret journey' 'Murder by numbers'  and in the current climate 'Don't stand so close to me'  'Every breath you take' (i'll be watching you)

I'm more disturbed by the double murder in 2011 and they are just now arresting the murderer.

This misunderstanding excuse is so worn out.  Whenever there is an inquiry everyone already knows the outcome "Misunderstanding"
