Thai FDA changes rules to make antigen test kits more available and cheaper

Antigen rapid test kits (ATKs) for home use will become more easily available in stores and at more affordable prices after an announcement in the Royal Gazette, expected next week, of a new regulation from the Thai Food and Drug Administration (TFDA).

Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said today (Friday) that the TFDA had given approval for all stores and online outlets, not just pharmacies staffed by a pharmacist, to sell ATKs to the public.

Dr. Thongchai Keeratihattayakorn, assistant permanent secretary of public health said that store owners and other retailers will be able to sell the ATKs, which were imported by companies approved by the TFDA, as he recommended only buying products which are properly registered with the TFDA. Currently, 51 brands of ATKs have been approved for sale in Thailand.

More affordable?

So did the FDA have an influence on the selling price before?

Big money to be made. Check where the kit is manufactured. China has jumped onto this bandwagon of profit.

They shouldn't have been overpriced anyway.

Everywhere you turn people are ripping off other people in Thailand.

Not all people of course.

But in general I see a propensities to take advantages of people whether there Thai or Farang and its sad.

It matters not what they cost.

The Government will still make money from the People over the sale of the ATK kits.

And of course, a bigger plus for the Gov,t is that there is no mandatory reporting of the results from these tests, whether positive, or negative.

PCR testing will also drop, along with the costs involved with that.

Its a Gov,t win win.

Got to get those Infection numbers down somehow.

They should be free for kids going back to school!!

Some time ago I bought a pack of the overpriced kits (5 for 1200 Baht).

Out of curiosity I just found that they were actually manufactured in South Korea (SD Biosensor). Some German consulting company and Roche (Germany) involved.

No wonder that they are expensive.

Had to remove a big sticker on the back to see it:

Cheap stuff sold in Germany is from ... China. Of course

They were told to make these ATK tests more readily available - 7/11

CP needs to make more money off the Thai people.
