BANGKOK (NNT) - The Prime Minister has visited Sukhothai province to seek a long-term solution to floods in the area, as citizens in many districts of Sukhothai are affected by floods whenever there is a long period of rainfall. Aside from Sukhothai, other provinces in the lower northern region also have a similar problem with recurring regional flooding.

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-O-Cha along with General Anupong Paochinda, Minister of the Interior, and Justice Minister, Somsak Thepsuthin first visited Wang Yai subdistrict in Sri Samrong, where the area has been severely inundated for days while the water level has kept rising.

At Sri Samrong district, over 92 villages and 13,000 residents have been affected by the flood as water has been overflowing Mae Mok reservoir’s spillways in Lampang district for many days. The flood situation is now larger than Sri Samrong district, as overflowing water from other reservoirs has continuously flooded the western part of Sukhothai’s Mueang district and other areas. Most roads are now inaccessible by smaller vehicles. Houses are flooded and more are at risk if the water level keeps rising.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation also reported that aside from Sukhothai, the Tian Mu storm also caused inundation in Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang, Tak, Pichit, Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Ubon Ratchathani, Nakhon Sawan, Chainat, Sing Buri, and Ayutthaya. In only four provinces - Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang, and Tak, has the situation now been resolved.

Where exactly is the town of Sukhothai, it seems to have disappeared?

Gee, he is a really intelligent, good retired army Bloke. I wonder if he will "visit" other provinces when trickle-down sets in?

I wan't aware that water flows from north to south in Thailand. Really happy he enlightened me.

Floods will likely get here in Pattaya and add to further wash the sand away during Monsoon season. SMH.

A truly amazing man….always there wherever and whenever the Thai people are afflicted by dreadful misfortunes.

Well over the years much work has been carried out for flood control in New Sukhothai city so maybe he should go after the people he paid the money to, to fix it.

Didn't the unelected PM say just last week there would not be any floods?

That is what I was told but since he has been in power of govt the govt has given a lot of money to someone who has done a lot of work in and around New Sukhothai and maybe been told by them "all sorted gov" but it has failed and just sent one big lot of water to another place which I've never seen before.
