CoC presses for 400,000 illegal foreigners in Thailand to get vaccinated and solve labor shortage

Thai business media quoted the chief of the Thai Chamber of Commerce Sanan Angubonkul as assessing that there were 300,000 to 400,000 illegal foreign migrants in Thailand.

He said the issue was raised at a recent meeting of the CCSA.

Sanan wants to see these migrants made legal in the system so that they can be vaccinated.

This would help to address the severe labor shortage caused by migrants who have gone back to neighboring countries.

Looks like Thailand needs its own version of Brexit.....flush out all the cheap labour and pay their own people a decent wage.

It seems to be working really well in the UK

Why is there a labor shortage in Thailand? Is it a myth that so many Thais are out of work?

Catch 22?

Large undocumented, cheap labour force keeps wages suppressed below a level Thai's find acceptable.

However, the cheap labour force isn't quite big enough. So now you are stuck.......you can't raise wages as you are running a cheap, low wage economy to maximize profits, which means you can't attract Thais. Also raising wages when you have so many cheap laborers will cost a fortune and wipe out profits.

The only solution is to allow even more cheap labour in, keeping Thais constantly unemployed, but profits up.

I don´t think you get the difference. In UK people actually work when on the clock. Here people fall asleep at any given moment.

July 2021 unemployment rate was 1.9%, how come there is labour shortage? Thais just being lazy

So do it... don't just talk about it.

Offer a 6 month amnesty, get documented no questions asked.

But then again who would trust Thailand.

There was a report in the Thai press last week that unregistered workers from Myanmar are already being allowed to register (forTHB 100 a pop) to enable vaccination/tracing.

And to support the unemployed thais, bring in more farangs... to support the unemployed. Problem solved.

But but but I got a masters degree, i can't possibly pick up a shovel.

Better to live-in with the parents a bit longer and watch tele all day.

Or sell something on line or marketplace.

So covid-19 lockdowns have destroyed the tourism industry which was as high as 20% of the economy, throwing millions out of work, but there's a labour shortage? I personally know of more than a few Thai people who cannot currently get a job.

I've long ago stopped trying to make sense of anything in this country but it does frustrate me sometimes.

yes.its the work on  offer they dont want to do and its NOT  a  salary  issue, Ive offered work at 14k a  month+ benefits, more than those Panda riders 10-15k, but  no interest......simple, they whinge and moan but do  nothing to help themselves in short lazy will leech off  otehr  family  member who are  employed.
