Brunei has reported one new Covid-19 fatality, as well as 229 new cases

Brunei reported one more Covid-19-related death on Saturday.


According to the Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Md Isham Jaafar during a press briefing in the capital, the latest victim was a 72-year-old woman who had lung issues after being infected with the coronavirus.


Meanwhile, the health minister announced that one of the two previously reported instances' cause of death has been identified as Covid-19-related.
The country's death toll has risen to 53.

 

In the last 24 hours, Brunei has added 229 new instances of Covid-19 infections, including one imported case.
Two more clusters with 13 cases were added.
The total number of Covid-19 cases now stands at 11,901.


There are 53 new cases added to 14 active clusters that were previously close contacts with multiple positive cases.


The two new clusters are accommodation clusters.


Five clusters have been closed following no new detected cases in the clusters for 28 days.
The closed clusters include FOS THOR Vessel Cluster, 3774 Cluster, 3965 Cluster, 5390 Cluster and 5499 Cluster.
As a result, there are currently 167 active clusters.

 

On 10 October 2021, the only import case reported today landed in Brunei from Manila through Singapore on board Singapore Airlines SQ 146.


Meanwhile, the source of the virus is still being explored in 162 new instances.


Today, 277 instances were recovered, increasing the overall number of recovered cases in Brunei to 9,368 cases, compared to 2,452 active cases.


Six of the cases at the National Isolation Centre are in Category 5 and are now being treated in the Intensive Care Unit.
All of them require artificial ventilation, with three of them requiring the support of a second heart/lung machine (ECMO).
