The number of dengue fever cases in the first nine months of this year has decreased compared to the same period last year, the National Center for Parasitology, Entomology and Malaria Control (NCPEM) announced yesterday. NCPEM director Huy Rekol said that there were a total of 1,257 cases of children and adults infected with dengue fever and three deaths during this period.

The number of dengue fever cases have dropped by more than eight times compared to the same period in 2020, when there are were 9,119 cases and 11 deaths, he said. Rekol said cases were reported in Phnom Penh, Kandal, Kampong Speu and Takeo provinces but there were no cases in Prey Veng province.

He said the reason for the decrease is that people have been educated. If their child is sick, the parents rush to the hospital in time. “Even during the time of Covid-19, dengue fever cases and deaths dropped resulting in a good outcome,” he said.
