SR to be smart city after JICA evaluation ends soon

Featured Replies

A Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) study, started last year at the request of Siem Reap Administration Hall, to develop Siem Reap smart city is scheduled to end soon. The smart city project, part of the Asean Smart City Scheme, was initiated in 2018 in accordance with the plan provided by the ASEAN Smart Cities Network (ASCN).

Deputy Siem Reap governor Ly Samith yesterday said last year the JICA study team conducted a preliminary study on the smart city project and it will end early next year. “Siem Reap city will be the smart city of ASEAN smart city after the JICA’s evaluation is completed in early 2022,” he added.

Samith thanked Japan for providing technical assistance through JICA to conduct a study to develop Siem Reap smart city and to make it part of an ASEAN smart city. The smart city concept refers to the development of intelligent and sustainable cities that use modern technology to address the impacts of rapid urbanisation such as traffic congestion, water, and air quality, and security and safety.
