Gov’r halts slaughter on holy days

Featured Replies

Kampot provincial governor Mao Thonin has issued an order banning slaughterhouses in the province from butchering on holy days. He added that if they want to sell meat on these days, they must kill the animals before the holy days and store the meat in refrigerators. Kampot Provincial Chief Monk Nhet Chandara was pleased with Thonin’s new order.

“Old people, especially Buddhists, will congratulate him for this order”, said Ven Chandara. Ven Chandara added that Thonin’s new order honours the Kingdoms motto: Nation, Religion, King, and that the constitution says Buddhism is the religion of the Kingdom.

Kampot Provincial Department of Agriculture director Chan Rith yesterday told Khmer Times   he and people in the province are pleased with Thonin’s order because it is a good way to appreciate Buddhism. “I have announced this order to all districts in Kampot province, and we start to follow it on the first holy day, October 29, on”, said Rith.
