Arriving 1:30 am in early august. We don't want wife's family to come at that time, so looking for a hotel close to airport (sum*** not DM) to catch a little sleep and shower.

Only one I have seen is novotel, but it is expensive!

If nothing right by the airport, anything close is appreciated.

I recommend the Sananwan Palace, about 20 min. from the airport. It's clean, friendly and inexpensive. Read more about it, and other possibilities, on this thread.

The ibis huamark is very good i paid 1000bht for a mini suite for me the missus and baby it was excellent and its only 20mins in a taxi.Check the link out book in advance for a cheap rate.

This hotel is available direct for 900 baht (single) It is the nearest to the airport next to the exit of the airport bus terminal. a 5 minutes taxi ride.

If you want a 'real' hotel and not a guest house but still cheap and within a quick 15-20 minutes drive without traffic try this one I stayed for 1.200 baht net for 2 incl buffet breakfast. very good value.

I went through this a month ago when returning to the US on an early morning flight. In the end I stayed at my usual favorite on Sukhimvitt, it was only 25 minutes via the motorway to the airport.
