BANGKOK (NNT) - Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha has acknowledged updates on the floods in Bangkok and vicinity provinces which were triggered by storm surges in the Gulf of Thailand, and has ordered all agencies to quickly assist people in flooded areas. Meanwhile, the government spokesman has asserted that the prime minister is aware of developments affecting the public and the government is not remaining idle to the problems.

Prime Minister’s Office spokesperson Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana spoke of the current (9 Nov) flooding in many areas of Greater Bangkok, attributing the inundation to the abnormally high tide and the inflow of water from upper Thailand. As a result, the water level in the Chao Phraya River rose and overflows occurred in areas located outside flood barriers. Some of the affected localities in Bangkok are Charoen Nakhon, Charoen Krung, Rama 3, and Ratburana. Parts of Samutprakan are also affected.

The prime minister has also told relevant agencies to assist people whose cars became stuck on flooded roads.

Meanwhile, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is working to pump water out of roads and manage traffic to remedy the situation. Sandbags were also being used to prevent further flooding of roads.

Thanakorn said people can keep abreast of the water situation in Bangkok through the website https://dds.bangkok.go.th/

Deputy Prime Minister Gen. Prawit Wongsuwon, who heads the National Water Command, said warnings of the storm surge have been issued, but some areas that were unprotected by water barriers have become affected. He added that the inundations are not expected to last and the situation would not escalate.

Similarities between Prayut and King Canute?

PM orders this, orders that, then issues more orders.  You would think after 6 years as head of Govt he'd learnt he's not leading an army, but governing a country.  Can take the man out of the army but can't take the army out of the man.  He's simply not fit to govern.  Too bad for Thai people he's so self-delusional about this.  Can't lose face and admit any mistakes even when he's ruining his own country.   Sad.

Hopefully. for the residents sake, he will be better heard than when he addressed the Thailand Pass issue

Actually the precise opposite.

Cnute ordered the sea not to advance as a demonstration of the futility of doing so, and that no matter how much earthly power any mortal soul possessed, the power of the sea and the earth shall obey His (God's) eternal laws regardless of mankind's vanity, and that mans power is empty and worthless.

Cnute's lesson has of course been misunderstood over the last 1,000 years and the gradual death of God in the last two centuries has rendered his wisdom of little value to the present world's ruling elites.

Yes I thought that... 'go fix it'.....as likely as King Canute holding back the tide.

The old "thumb stuck where the sun don't shine" doesn't seem to have any effect.

'Prime minister orders agencies to mitigate effects of storm surge' - he's going to sit on the beach and forbid the tide to come in.

We should count our blessing - as Prayut and associates are experts regarding most everything. And always in good hands......

Absolutely. He behaves as if he is still a general ordering his troops around. This is civilian government. Things don't work quite the same way. You need planning, analysis, foresight and forethought, projection, anticipation, initiative, intelligence, awareness and preparedness. Not, "General orders agencies to deliver sandbags to citizens because he loves them so much".

Poor fella must be exhausted from issuing so many order this week …. and it’s only Wednesday.
