Catastrophes kill 121 people, injures 168 in 10 months

Natural disasters that occurred across Cambodia over the last 10 months had claimed the lives of 121 people while 168 others escaped with major or minor injuries. Of those killed, 76 were killed by lightning, 27 by fire, 11 by flood, and the remainder due to strong winds. The catastrophes also killed 57 cattle. As for those injured, 44 were due to lightning, 72 were strong winds, 51 fire, and one was due to flooding.

 

While the relevant authorities are still gathering information from the provinces across the country, the calamities especially floods also caused 127,215 metres of rural and 16,130 metres of national roads to be damaged besides 172,297 people being evacuated from 41,558 houses that were submerged in floodwaters. A total of 1,213 cattle were also rescued and placed on safer grounds.

 

The recent torrential rainfall had also destroyed 40,777 hectares of rice fields, damaging another 74,037 hectares besides destroying 3,643 hectares of mixed crops and damaging another 12,958 hectares.
