BANGKOK (NNT) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) resolved to ease more restrictions on restaurants serving alcoholic beverages under the "Thai Stop Covid Plus" certification campaign, in addition to the previous certification of the SHA (Safety and Health Administration) granted by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.

 

Starting from this Tuesday, restaurants with the newly approved “Thai Stop Covid Plus” certificate, authorized by the Department of Health, will be allowed to serve alcoholic beverages until 9 pm.

The BMA lifted a ban on alcohol consumption in restaurants on November 1, allowing SHA-certified restaurants to resume dine-in services with the sales of alcoholic drinks permitted until 9 pm.

 

Bangkok Governor Pol Gen Aswin Kwanmuang wants to maintain Covid restrictions by allowing alcohol consumption in restaurants only until 9 pm for the time being, reasoning that the easing of curbs must proceed gradually.

 

The governor said the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will be assessing the situation every two weeks to consider how well the general public and business operators cooperate with the City Hall, after which authorities will consider extending the alcohol consumption period accordingly.

1) Hand over fat envelope.

2) Impressive looking local officials come to the restaurant.

3) Plenty of photos of them looking and pointing at things, vaccine certificates, masks, alcohol gel bottes.

4) Requisite photo of officials and owners all lined up giving a thumbs up.

5) Very fancy official logo stuck to the door.

6) Ok, now you can drink. Still only until 9 pm though.

How gauche - crime bosses don't scrape the streets. 

They have people to do this for them. 

How many more hoops will the government create for the already struggling businesses to jump through! If the SHA system is useless then get rid of it and have just one certification.

Lets hope they don't start doing Covid rapid swab testing to go into a restaurant/bar. 

Who is in charge? Ban aid approach there are so many programs and hoops to go through I know the countries dream is to one day hold the Asian games but this is crazy!  Who is going to come if they continue to show how ignorant and discriminating they are doing it for long that no one in government and business see it. What next when they board the BTS, go to the toilet!  Stop the nonsense and join the world and stop living in the dark ages leaders!

 

If the BMA can make changes Bangkok being the center of the outbreak and most likely in the future regardless of vaccination then every other province can do the same that includes Chon Buri. The more they think the worse it gets the solution is to just shut down their brains!????

Customers must enter and leave via the front door and abide by all regulations.

Those without the "Thai Stop Covid Plus" certificate use the backdoor as normal.

Strolling around Pattaya Central last night left me depressed and wanting to cut short my holiday. Seems the government have it in for Pattaya... deserted streets and closed businesses l... 

Not coming back until everything is up and running and no testing on arrival once you have had a negative pre travel test and full vaccination proof. 

Yet another new certification scheme:

 

"The Secret Covert Plonk" certificate now available when you send a large brown envelope. However, we will be back fortnightly for an update. 

My immediate thought was that this came in just to include the venue that allegedly 'Hiso's and politicians were congregating and drinking. But then I'm a cynic.????

Come on, there's Hertz and Avis, Apple and Samsung, Ferrari and Lamborghini, Airbus and Boeing,  Facebook and MySpace.....okay, 4 for 5

 

Why shouldn't there be SHA+ and ThaiStopCovid+ ?

Better off in Bangkok presently, (I live in Pattaya Jomtien), went there a few days ago thinking of going back next weekend for undisguised pints and visit a few touristy things while not to crowded. 

The great and benevolent leader has already insured happiness. Now, he is showing the vast purity of his heart, by allowing the people to celebrate, and have some fun. Have a beer, my people! 

 

He is lowering unemployment.

 

He is growing the economy.

 

He is doing everything in his power to open the country up again, and increase tourism revenue.

He is increasing exports.

He is abiding by all of the terms of the ASEAN charters he signed, and allowing the duty free importation of all beer throughout ASEAN. Bintang, Beer Lao, Bia Saigon, Bia Huda, Bia Ha Noi, Dagon, Saigon Special, 333, are on all of the supermarket shelves as we speak. We are not longer subject to the very low quality local beers, as promised in the recent ASEAN charter, that Thailand agreed to and signed. 

 

He is making visa policy easy, simple and streamlined, and all tourists are very happy about that.

 

He is working on the attitudes of government workers, and making sure they are open and friendly to both tourists, and ex-pats.

 

He is improving traffic and public safety.

 

He is working day and night to eliminate the air quality issues, that have become a catastrophe for the nation. 

 

Corruption is being eliminated, and innocent fall guys are no longer getting charged for murder, and being put to death.

 

The taxi mafia on Samui and Phuket have been eliminated, and tourists can now get a taxi at a fair price. They are also adding multiple options of cheap public transportation on the Southern islands. 

 

Life is better for all now that this great man is demonstrating his genius and vision on a daily basis. All he cares about is the welfare of his own people, and the happiness of both tourists and the ex-pat community.

 

He contemplates this day and night.

Just let all restaurants sell alcohol, all of the time.

 

There has been no spike since November 1st. Why? Because alcohol and Covid are completely unrelated. This law was absolutely ridiculous as many of us pointed out for months. Just because a few puritans hate to see others enjoying themselves, that is no reason to destroy businesses.

So, if this is good enough for Bangkok why not Pattaya?

As I saw someone write on another forum, take Occam's Razor to the no-booze Pattaya issue, cut away anything that doesn't make sense, and what you are left with might just be the answer. I hope it's not, but 'never let a crisis go to waste' comes to mind.

If I had to guess, I'd say the influential wealthy families that lobby the governemtn have business interests and like to party in Bangkok, not on Soi Post Office.

A post with many good points, however, I have a problem with your last sentence. You are first assuming they actually think, and secondly you are assuming they have the requisite organ, i.e. a brain.

I am sorry you have had a poor vacation experience and should probably serve fair warning to anyone else thinking about coming to Thailand right now for a short term visit.

 

I guess it depends on motivation and purpose.

It is better than being stuck in the middle of winter as covid sweeps Moscow for a couple of months? Yup.

Is Thailand getting back to normal and ready for tourists for a two week vacation? Nowhere near.

Do these guys have a dictionary of names they can use? Maybe they get paid for name ingenuity. Makes a change from getting paid for doing nothing

A few restaurants will not make a difference.Maybe their friends will be happy.Open up and tourist will come and not be ripped off by what is on offer now

Sorry Thailand, IMO you are losing out! Cambodia has already lifted the ban on alcohol purchase and consumption without any time restrictions. This morning's headline in the Cambodian Press 16 November 2021):-

 

COVID health insurance no longer needed for travelers to Cambodia.

“The requirement now is just PCR test results 72 hours before boarding a flight to show that the passenger is negative for Covid-19, a rapid antigen test at the airport upon arrival, and no quarantine for those who are vaccinated............. 

............. tourists need not show their Covid-19 vaccination card or status when entering or exiting restaurants, malls, and other places.
