The first batch of 15 Afghan refugees arrive in Cambodia

Featured Replies

The first batch of 15 Afghanistan refugees arrived on Tuesday night in Cambodia from conflict-torn Afghanistan to stay temporarily, on humanitarian principles. The 15 refugees are among the around 300 who are scheduled to arrive in the Kingdom in stages. The government has formed an ad-hoc working group tasked with receiving the Afghan people to stay here temporarily.

The arrival of the Afghanistan refugees is handled by Ministry of Interior Secretary of State Sok Phal and Immigration Department director general General Kirth Chantharith.

The taskforce spokesman Major General Chung Ravuth told Khmer Times said the 15 refugees arrived at the Phnom Penh International Airport on Tuesday night and they were received on Humanitarian grounds as per the government decision and will stay in the Kingdom before leaving to a third country to settle down.
