I'm visiting the Thai Consulate in Laos in the near future and applying for a 1 yr. Non im. visa. Married to a Thai and have a 5 year old daughter. I've got the visa many times from Penang, UK ect. but never fron Vientiane. I've heard that they are reluctant to issue 1 year visas. Anyone had experience there, or can offer any useful advice.

You will not get one from Vientiane or Penang. The only place that might issue in the area is KL. If you can show 400k in a bank account Singapore would also be an option. If you try KL take full documentation. Marriage certificate and copy, copy of wife ID card signed/dated, copy of home register.

I'm taking a sabbatical from my job in July and cancelling my non-B and getting a non-O instead. Witht the above documentation you mentioned is an initial 3 month non-O straightforward enough in Vientiene Lopburi? Thanks for any info.

Single entry should not be a problem at Vientiane.

How long does it take to issue a non-immigrant O from Vientiane? I've been told three days, and I will be arriving from my work place in Laos on the Friday, meaning I'll be there until Tuesday or Wednesday!!

Any advice appreciated.
