Deputy Secretary-General of Thailand’s National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), Sutthisak Tatrayothin confirmed that, for the time being, customers of mobile phone services provided by True and Dtac will not be affected, following an announcement of a potential merger between the two telecom giants.

Mr. Sutthisak added that the Trade Competition Commission (TCC) should step in in examining the potential merger, as they did in the case of the takeover of the Tesco Lotus retail chain in Thailand and Malaysia by the CP Group.

Thailand’s telecom regulator has no authority to interfere with ongoing talks between Norway’s Telenor and Thailand’s Charoen Pokphand Group, because it is at the stage of due diligence and discussions over shares swaps, said the NBTC Deputy on Tuesday.

It´s amazing that has to be printed in the news! Everyone with a small fraction of brain understands the idea to a possible merger does not affect customers of the companies in question. It´s not like they are going to shut down their business during the talks of merger.

Interesting, I see no mention of China Mobile which is the second biggest share holder in TRUE (18%).

For reference (Wikipedia):-

"Thai activists have charged that True, .................. shared dissidents' internet account details to the junta in the aftermath of the 2014 Thai coup d'état. It is impossible to corroborate ........................... but Thai governments since 2007 have sought to curb online criticism by passing legislation that compel ISPs to deploy online surveillance and censorship technologies.[18] True's Privacy Policy, allows it to share data with law-enforcement authorities.[19]"
