Thailand signed a deal to buy an additional 30 million doses of Pfizer mRNA vaccine from the United States yesterday (Thursday), to be used as booster shots.

The agreement was signed between Thailand’s Disease Control Department and the Pfizer Thailand and Indochina Company and was witnessed by Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.

Anutin said that the first batch of the 30 million doses being bought under the deal is expected to be delivered in the first quarter of next year and will be administered as booster shots.

Perhaps one (or half of one) is mine!

So another triumphant fanfare about something that hasn't happened, yet.

Is the Pfizer vaccine available privately in Thailand at the moment ? ( wanting a booster jab )

Will Pfizer even work on the new South African mutation?

BioNTech, a German pharmaceutical company, and Pfizer, a US-based pharmaceutical business, warned on Saturday that they are unsure if their coronavirus vaccinations can help treat the new COVID-19 strain ‘Omicron.’.

No.

You mean the super dooper Ninja mutant?

No

But it does not seem to work on any of them after 6 months anyway.

it is being randomly thrown to random hospitals in random amounts on random days. Just drive around all the major hospitals (also large shopping centers such as Central) in your area every day and eventually you'll get a free Pfizer shot.

It's worth 30 minutes of your time to listen to Eric Feigl-Ding recorded yesterday evening:

In regard to your question it seems likely that if you get a booster (at four months would be really good), your antibodies will go up to 2000~2500 vs 700 from the original Pfizer series.

Unknown at this time... but an analysis I saw seemed to suggest it is likely it will not. Nevertheless the vaccine can be quickly adapted (modified) to work. Old stock would not have this capability.

Getting a booster after Pfizer gives you a much better chance of dealing with Omicron.

I saw a summary suggesting current MRNA vaccines may well not work with Omicron... so would we not need an updated booster?

It will take 100 days to test new mRNA versions of Pfizer and Moderna before updated vaccines or boosters can begin full production. In principle, existing orders when produced will be the revised vaccines. In the meantime will Omicron have already arrived here (in Thailand)? Best get boosted ASAP unless you somehow soon know that you have a date certain for the new stuff.

It will take a couple of weeks to test serum from vaccinated and recovered people to see who needs what - a current booster on an accelerated schedule or a revised booster. With the revised vaccines it may take longer to see through more extended trials how much hospitalization or death is prevented for people infected by Omicron.

If you have 30 minutes, this is quite informative:
