You say porn is freely available in Thailand? I am not in Thailand right now but I read it is a) illegal to see and b) that sites are blocked. Not sure if your statement can stand like that.

A few sites are blocked . but many are not .

Its quite easy to get around the block anyway

Thailand’s polling center “NIDA Poll” today, November 28th, revealed its public survey under the topic “legal porn, would you like it or not?” that was reportedly done between November 22nd – the 24th among 1,315 people aged over 18-years-old nationwide.

Small sample size considering there is approx 54million over 18 yr olds, how was the question worded and was there a definition of pornography in the survey.

Where and how did they distribute survey?

I suspect Thai men do not need porn as there are an abundance of outlets for their libido. However 45% of people said they had watched it, which would be more than 31 million. That's a lot!

There is probably no need to make it legal while other illegal activities are there for all.

I do not think Thais watch porn anymore than any other group.  Porn is out there, some people enjoy it, some don't.  Based on my circle of friends, here and in other countries, it is highly probable that the majority don't watch it, therefore could care less about legalisation.

Talking to friends, Japanese and Americans seem to watch it more than Thais and continental Europeans, simply because in countries where access to sex seems to be common, porn doesn't seem to be needed.

As for viewing porn, the Internet pretty much negates any means of control, because there's just too much out there, from FansOnly to Pirate Bay.  I think the biggest thing about legalising it here would be making porn.  The sex industry is large and a problem already.  Producing porn movies would only add to the problem.

They only had 1300 odd responses, not reliable data from a population 54 million over 18 yr olds

There is almost no prostitution in Thailand.

There is no gambling in Thailand

There are very few drugs in Thailand.

Thai people would never watch porn and think it should be banned.

Fake News 555

Also all girls in short skirts in Thailand are virgins!

I am not Thai and I do not watch porn but the "majority" of my Thai circle do watch porn and would love to see it legalised

This being said, I do not see how a husband, wife, son, father or mother would answer positively to these questions especially if they are not alone when polled 555

My personal poll shows an overwhelming 95% in favour 5% not against...the rest strongly opposing

95% in favour 5% not against   = 100%       so who is left to be strongly opposing    ??

You are joking, right ? It is pun intended ( the "not against" as well)

But we may not have the same sense of humour, God forbid

I think most Thai do watch porn through the internet, it's just a click away.

That article must have been written by some 'religious' person that doesn't reflect reality.

A sample size of only 1068 from a population of 54 million is sufficient to produce results with a 3% error rate with 95% confidence.  See https://www.checkmarket.com/sample-size-calculator/ Large samples are not necessary. The only ways to question such a poll is to call into question the way the sample was selected and the way the questions were asked. For the small sample to provide reliable results, respondents must be chosen randomly. That's not trivial, especially when sampling a national population.

It would depend on how well the survey was carried out so that people could answer freely.

I've seen the Pornhub logo on bikes and women's t shirts although I don't know if they knew what it was. Maybe their name or that of a gf is Porn. I've seen a sign on Kho Chang pointing to 'Porn Cottage' which I found intriguing. I also saw a woman with 'Lady Garden' on their shirt which made the wife laugh when I explained it.

Actually there's quite a lot of things I'm sure Thais don't understand when they put it on shirts or bags ect. My step daughter's friend had F*** You in 2 inch high letters across her shirt. I'm sure she's too nice to actually mean that unless she knows more about me than I thought.

And it's ok for you to comment whatever you like about Thais? People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

It would get you the racist label in many of our new woke countries.....

Have I been specifically commenting on the local people here in this thread?

Your reply here is a non sequitur.

Sites are NOT blocked.  Since they CAN be blocked, but are not, it seems it is treated like prostitution -- also illegal, but never blocked.  Frankly, it seems like a lot of moral lip service by government officials who won't stand in the way of all the money being generated.

Must have confused you with someone else. I know you wouldn't do anything like that. My apologies.
