hello everyone,

my friend got a job offer in Chiang Mai, currently he is living in Bangkok with tourist visa,

I would like to ask

does he have to go to the Chiang Mai immigration office to do the non-b visa?

Can he do that in BKK first ? after he find a room then he do the work permit in Chiang Mai?

as he told me he doesn't want to spend any extra money in hotel

He will have to apply for the change of visa status at immigration in Chiang Mai since that is where the 1 year extension of the 90 day entry from the non-b would be done.

Dependent upon the type of work he will be doing he may need a work permit application approval letter to apply for the change to a non-b visa.

thank you for your answer.

We heard that before COVID, we can do that in any Thai embassy in any countries, so we think it will be the same , can do that in any province.

It means he need to stay in Chiang Mai until he got the non b visa ??

How many days have to wait ? ( so much money in hotel ....... ) and is it only 2000 bahts? He is wondering if the immigration stuff request any extra money .......?

It is not the same at some embassies. Some will only issue a visa if you are citizen or legal resident of the country where you are applying.

Immigration set there own rules and one of them is that you have to apply for any non immigrant visa at the same office where he will be applying for a one year extension of stay.

It takes 2 tp 3 weeks for the non-b visa to approved and issued.

He can travel away from Chiang Mai after the application is done and then return when it is approved.

He will only need the 2000 baht fee to apply for the visa.
