As my wife has started to say repeatedly every time we see someone doing something mindless here - 'that's why school is so important'.

These prison sentences - whether 'served' or actually really served, will do little to prevent people doing mindless things. People need to understand what is right or wrong before they do something. 

Nobody I know would pick up a rifle and go to find a wild animal to kill for sport, especially an endangered animal in a protected area, because it's simply a mindless and an arrogant thing to do.
