Prisons: 42 ▶︎ Recoveries: 7,939 ▶︎ Total infections since April 1: 2,127,724 ▶︎ Total recoveries since since April 1: 2,047,662 Thursday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 2,156,587 with 21,084 deaths. The news comes as Thailand’s Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) announced Wednesday that a second and third case of COVID-19 Omicron infection have been detected in Thailand in two unvaccinated Thai women, who returned to the country from Nigeria on November 24th. Both entered quarantine upon arrival and tested positive for COVID-19, just two days before the World Health Organisation formally announced the emergence of Omicron. Their infections came ahead of Thailand’s first known case of the Omicron variant, a 35-year-old American businessman arriving from Spain and then Dubai on November 29th, as announced by the CCSA on Monday. *Thai PBS contributed to this report Discover Cigna’s range of health insurance solutions created for expats and local nationals living in Thailand - click to view -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2021-12-09 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow ASEAN NOW on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates Get your business in front of millions of customers who read ASEAN NOW with an interest in Thailand every month - email [email protected] for more information

Let's hope it was an anomaly. However on comparison to prior weeks the graph looks very similar. Edited December 9, 2021 by ThailandRyan

Hospitalization data isn't much good for analyzing anything probably ICU and ventilator numbers are the go.

Many around us believe the crisis is over and are wandering around without masks. The kids are playing outside in Lumpini Park on the equipment without masks or adhering to the posted signs. Complacency again..... Edited December 9, 2021 by ThailandRyan

Complacency again..... Yet here in the sticks, mask compliance is still very, very high. No sign of any of the local schools reopening, the teachers are still handing out homework once a week. Yesterday they apparently said moves are afoot to reopen. Rinse and repeat. I'd say the vaccination rate has gone up, but still nowhere near where it needs to be, many of the older ones around here without smartphones etc, haven't had it yet. Only anecdotal, but we had an out break in Chantaburi, about 2 months ago, seems to have died off now, yesterday's markets were very busy. Lots of Cambodians around.

ThailandRyan
4th Omicron case being sequenced now. It was only a matter of time before more cases popped up. These are imported, waiting for the first real homegrown case to show up. Daughter in the US seeing cases but most are minor symptoms like a cold.
Pattaya Spotter
The Coronavirus Attacks Fat Tissue, Scientists Find Maybe you should have stuck to that diet after all ???? From the start of the pandemic, the coronavirus seemed to target people carrying extra pounds. Patients who were overweight or obese were more likely to develop severe Covid-19 and more likely to die...[S]cientists have become increasingly convinced that their vulnerability has something to do with obesity itself. Don Chance
How quickly is it spreading? The answer seems to be fast. And that applies even in places where there are high levels of immunity, either through vaccination or big waves of Covid in the past. South Africa had seen the end of its Delta wave and was averaging less than 300 cases a day a month ago. Now it's more than 10,000 with Omicron seemingly the driving force behind their fourth wave. https://www.bbc.com/news/health-59580290

It is however something that some people find difficult to avoid, those with diabetes etc its not all just down to over eating, that said for those that are obese for no other reason than eating I agree fully. Just looked that up, yes seems your right, its more to do with Type 1 Weight gain is a common symptom of diabetes and other insulin-related medical conditions. Compared with people who do not have diabetes, young adults with type 1 diabetes have a higher risk of developing excess body weight or obesity. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/325328#diabetes-and-weight-gain
