Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Wednesday sentenced six Chinese men to life in prison in connection with more than 70 kilograms of drugs that were seized from their homes in Phnom Penh, Preah Vihear and Preah Sihanouk provinces last year.  Presiding Judge Im Vannak identified the six accused foreigners as He Ri Yi, 61; Chea Paijiun, 20; Zhen Qi Zhi, 26; Yu Yao Sung, 36; Lee Shao Feng, 48; and Chen Chih Chieh alias Jacky, 43.

They are Chinese tourists. “Phnom Penh Municipal Court has decided to sentence them to a life sentence in prison each. The court has also ordered them to pay a fine of $12,500, each to be added to the state’s budget,” said Judge Vannak, reading the verdict. Judge Vannak said that they all were charged with “drug possession, transport , trafficking and produce” under articles 38 and 40 of Cambodia’s Law on Drug Control.

He said they were arrested at their rental homes on October 10 and 11 last year in Preah Sihanouk, Preah Vihear and Phnom Penh.

He added that following a police operation, their houses were raided, and they were arrested.
