Thai Princess continues to help Khmer students

More than 2,000 Cambodian students have benefited from the generous scholarship programme established by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand. Cambodian students have had the opportunity to study in Thailand, since the programme was established in 2005.

 

General Vichit Yathip, chairman of a Thailand-Cambodia collaborative project under the patronage of HRH Prince Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, said yesterday that he had visited two institutes, Kampong Chheuteal Technology Institute and Kampong Speu Technology Institute, to visit and interview ex-recipients of the scholarships.

 

He said that the origin of this project, which promotes education, was 20 years ago, when Prime Minister Hun Sen asked for the support of the Princess to improve this sector. “Cambodian students have earned 17 kinds of Royal scholarships, from high school to doctoral degrees,” said Gen Yathip “2,017 students have received scholarships, with 1,432 having graduated. 585 students are studying in Thailand now,” he said.
