An expert with the International Air Transport Association says air travelers now face double or triple the risk of catching Covid on flights, because of the prevalence of the Omicron coronavirus variant.

The Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) has reported that the top medical advisor for the International Air Transport Association (IATA) has indicated that airplane passengers now face 2-3 times the risk of catching COVID-19 due to the emergence of the Omicron coronavirus variant.

Air travelers are being advised to avoid coming into close contact with one another or touching surfaces that are frequently handled.

According to the CCSA, the risk of contracting Covid on a flight is eclipsed by the much higher risk presented by visiting crowded places such as malls.

The center reasoned that newer aircraft employ the same grade of air filtration systems as those found at hospitals.

It reiterated the importance of observing disease control measures on flights, including wearing masks, regularly washing hands, and keeping a distance from other passengers.

The center noted the best action that can be taken to prevent infections is getting vaccinated in accordance with medical recommendations, saying this also applied to booster shots.

But don't cancel your bookings.

If that’s the case then open up for all and let the tourists in so the Thai people can get their lives back and stop the half hearted measures currently in place which only benefit those already applied through T&G using the loophole.

Once Thailand has a vaccination rate of 80%, it should open to all tourists but it hasn't reached that percentage yet.

Would only take Omicron a few minutes to infect 300 people in a aluminum cylinder then change flights at the next airport and infect 300 more! Definitely not a sensible time to be flying!

I was on the same ThaiSmile flight WE46 BKK to Khon Kaen 11 DEC as the two Thais returning from Belgium and are now credited as patients-zero for the Kalasin / Udon Thani omicron cluster.

The flight lasted about an hour and there was some wait in the boarding lounge. It seems all those 22 confirmed omicron cases were infected in on-the-ground contact and to-the-best-of-my-knowledge. none so far have been reported as have become infected based on being with maybe up to 20 or meters of the two returning  from Belgium

Seems like the real warning CCSA is presenting here is to avoid malls and crowded places not taking a flight.

It is getting closer to seeing that Omicron will make a lot of people sick, but they likely will not die

from it.  This is still not a good reason to relax, go out and get sick from it. Lets all hope that

this pandemic will be batter to handle by next Spring. Good Luck to all the brave travelers who

are still traveling with all the extra risks. Keep your masks on.
