snoop1130
Pig farmers have agreed to to cap the ex-farm price of live fattening pigs at 110 baht/kg until the end of February, to ease the financial burden on consumers, especially during the Chinese New Year festival, said Swine Raisers Association of Thailand Vice President Wiwat Pongwiwatchai, today (Monday). He said that slaughter houses and pork processors have also agreed to cooperate fully with the Internal Trade Department by maintaining the price of live fattening pigs at 110 baht/kg, but the retail prices of pork will range from 175 to 185 baht/kg, depending on the cut. He also said that the association is supportive of the Commerce Ministry’s sale of pork at discounted prices, averaging 150 baht/kg for red meat through its retail outlets, which has been the case since late last year. 86Tiger
Hmm, one could simply not sale any pigs until March. Fatten them up more for a few more weeks, sale after the price goes back up and when they will be heavier as well. Doesn't matter what the price is if there is nothing to buy..... kickstart
Around the new year, pork prices were about 90 baht/kg ,so the capped price of 110 baht/kg will make pig farmers happy . But as the price of feed has gone up the bottom line figure will be the same ,all right for the likes of CP and Betagro,it will be the smaller independent breeders that will feel the pinch.
