Hi all,

Apologies in advance for asking yet another visa question, but better safe than sorry. I'm off to extend my tourist visa at immigration tomorrow, but then next month I'm gonna have to go get a new one. I was hoping all you helpful chaps (and ladies) could point me in the right direction for my next visa. Brief history I arrived on a double entry T.V. from England 12 months ago now! (wow, time flies when your having fun! :o ) I've had a single entry T.V. from K.L. and Vientiane up to date. I don't know where to go next though. I like to make my visa trip into a little holiday for a week or so and bearing this in mind I just dunno where to go. I have heard Penang is easiest (probably) but what's it like as a holiday? Anything to do? I really want to do Cambodia and see all there is to see there but what's the visa situation like? Will I get one? Vietnam is also another must see place but again main reason for the trip is a visa.

Will I be ok getting my third T.V. in a row? I'm sure others must be on their third by now, so did you stick to the same places to get them or move about? I would prefer to see somewhere new but if I have to will go back to Laos or K.L. if that's the best option.

Many thanks in advance...

I usually do the same i.e. turn a visa run into a short holiday.

You shouldn't have any problems getting a tourist visa in Penang. There's already been quite a number of 4th-in-a-row recipients since October 1, 2006.

I've hung out in Penang for 5 days and had a good time. Rent a bike and ride all the way around the island....very scenic, go to beaches, jet-skiing and banana boats, 3 large shopping malls (Queensbay Mall is brand new), movies, historical sites, tram to mountain top look out (great views). It's easy to kill 5 days there.

You can have an agent get your visa for a 20 RM (+/- 200 baht) service fee so you can just go out and enjoy yourself while it's being done.

I like to try to make visa runs into a holiday also so that I am not totally just wasting the money ... but then you have to spend more money of course. I only went to Penang once and didn't like it too much. However, I went there because I just had lasik surgery in BKK, wanted to go somewhere close to there, and then had to go back to BKK for a check up. I couldn't go swimming due to my eyes, and was alone, am a woman and it is a little wierd there I found as a woman, and I was totally bored.

I would suggest Bali as a great vacation place if you find the nice areas to stay, they have very affordable rooms, nice restaurants, clubs, shopping, beaches, diving, surfing, all lots of other sports. And you can get a double tourist visa very easily with no lines at the consulate. You do need a ticket to show you are leaving Thailand at some point, unless you are married, then you just need to show you are married it seems.

If you are interested about where to stay, what areas or specific hotels, I can offer some advise if you want to PM me. I have been there 4 times in the last 3 years and always love it.

there is no confirmation that you can get a double entry in Bali that I have heard of. I dont know anyone who has gotten one there. Girlx went there and was told she could get one with a return ticket but came back visaless

Thanks all, think I'll just do Penang this time round as I don't have proof that I'll be leaving any time soon (waiting for the money to run out :o end of the year perhaps?)

Anyone know what the visa situation is like at Phnom penh?

Phnom Penh is not a place to go to obtain a visa. You might get it but it will not be pleasant. They do not want to issue to anyone but Cambodians from reports so it is best to avoid.
