ASEAN NOW News Posted February 10, 2022 Share Posted February 10, 2022 SINGAPORE — A 53-year-old woman has been arrested for her suspected involvement in a series of frauds involving the buying and selling of branded bags, where she allegedly cheated her victims of S$24,100 reported Today. The police said in a statement on Wednesday (Feb 9) evening that they had received reports on Feb 3 from victims who were "purportedly cheated by a woman in an investment scheme". File photo The scheme involved the buying and selling of branded bags, in which victims were "led to believe that they could earn 12 per cent commission from it". The victims taking part in the scheme transferred money to a bank account provided by the woman. After making the bank transfer, they did not receive the commission as promised. "The victims later suspected that they had fallen victim to a scam and reported the matter to the police." Through investigations, officers from the Tanglin Police Division established the identity of the 53-year-old woman and arrested her on Tuesday. "Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman is believed to be involved in at least three cases of investment scams amounting to S$24,100," the police said. The woman will be charged on Thursday with cheating, under Section 420 of the Penal Code. The offence carries a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine.
