darbyman
A friend of mine is planning to visit family in Thailand in October. I told him I would like to do the same but not until restrictions are done away with. He told me 1. British Airways were to resume domestic flights to Thailand in 4 weeks 2. There were plans afoot to lift all restrictions and go back to pre-pandemic terms in the near future. My response was that he was either on some substance or listening to false news. Has anyone heard similar?
Upnotover
BA are showing/selling direct flights commencing 30 October. Personally I would rather walk. They are selling flights before that but they are via HKG or DOH in partnership with Cathay and Qatar. Things might change of course.
phetphet
In case you are interested. Thai are still flying direct BKK-LHR-BKK. i have done two return flight to the UK in the last three months. In fact just finished my second Test & Go quarantine today. As far as lifting restrictions is concerned, they might, but it only takes another variant to raise its head and all bets are off.
internationalism
just some 1 month ago the BA has cancelled flights to bkk. I don't think they would change their plans so quickly. They would have to apply for a new landing slot. They are after the high season in thailand, flying half empty now is not much point. who wants to fly directly goes to Thai International. Unfortunately, it's bankrupt airline and risky to fly with them anymore. There are many other airlines, which offer flexible covid policies and even throw in free covid insurance, including hotel when symptomatic. nobody knows when they lift restrictions to thailand. Albeit going back to europe is easy, just covid vax
EricTh
There are no plans to lift all restrictions yet. The situation in Thailand is getting worse with 18,000 daily cases reported recently. Until we get less than 1000 daily cases or somebody less paranoid takes over the government, it will be status quo of 'quarantine for 1 to 2 days and expensive insurance'. The landing slots are still theirs as BA9/10 is flying (currently 4x weekly) as a cargo flight.
