A member of the crew of an oil tanker died and three others were injured in an explosion yesterday afternoon (Sunday) on the Chao Phraya River, as the tanker was mooring to unload oil at the Bangchak depot in Phra Khanong district of Bangkok.

The tanker, Ampar 8 Bangkok, was loaded with about three million litres of crude oil from Si Chang Island in Chon Buri province.

According to initial police findings, sparks erupted in the anchor windlass room, at the bow of the tanker, before the explosion and resulting fire. Police said that the fire was confined to the anchor windlass room.

The focsle is a handy storage space.  Its a bind walking aft to collect paint.  Not being a dedicated space for paints, poor ventilation.  Spark from the anchor starter unit.  Just a thought.  RIP
