BANGKOK, March 31 (TNA) – The prime minister discussed with the United Nations deputy secretary-general cooperation on sustainable development and marine waste management.

Achim Steiner, Deputy Secretary-General of the UN and Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), called on Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha during his visit to attend a meeting with regional UNDP chiefs.

In their meeting, Gen Prayut and Mr Steiner agreed that plastic pollution and marine waste were major environmental problems and sustainable solutions to plastic pollution needed cooperation from all parties and countries.

Plastic pollution and trash are a major issue in Thailand.  The amount of trash just thrown out by folks on the ground is horrible, and that's not just in the metropolitan areas.  Went for a walk in the new section of Benjakitti Park yesterday evening and the plastic bottles and items thrown on the ground amazed me.  So much for a beautiful park, soon it will look like a garbage dump, and there are trash cans all over the place.  Why is it that Thai's do not pick up after themselves and instead find it acceptable to just toss it on the ground or in the water.....

Did they give him the grand tour or just show him straight to the buffet table.
