I was at the counter recently,at a cafe on Saraburi station, awaiting the bill , this dog, in the pics below nearly took my hand off, firstly what breed is it? It is chained up for the majority of the day, barks constantly!

Went to the hospital and had 3 shots for Rabies, as it cut my hand with it's fangs.

Be carefull people, easy to become trustworthy of dogs, this one needs to be put down in my opinion. :o

It looks like a Cocker or Springer Spaniel (hard to tell from the photos, but I think a Cocker). Funny that, as a Cocker is the most "unpredictable & likely to bite" dog we have at our center, too. If it was chained, how did your hand get near enough for it to bite? You didn't try to pet a chained dog, did you?

Certainly should be muzzled while in public. I don't think it's leading the best life chained in a cafe - the owner should be put down, IMO, for cruelty to the dog & for endangering customers/passers by! And yes, to my knowledge, PB is right - the owner is obliged to pay for your rabies shots.

When I got bit on the beach at Hua Hin (totally unprovoked, by a loose but muzzled boxer dog), the owner immediately rendered aid, took me to the Red Cross, and paid for the first aid, shots, follow-up, etc. November, I'm surprised to see you say 'the owner should be put down" for endangering humans! I agree - if the owners are too Buddhist to put down a mad dog, they don't deserve to....own dogs.

Looks like a cocker alright ,im assuming it was off the chain when it bit, if so you could have ( probably too late now ) took the police round and got the medical fees,.if it was on the chain, forget it,. i had a similar thing hapen in pattaya ,i was riding my bike through a back lane and i saw dog outside a house, ( that i have seen there before when i went through oin my car )i slowed down for it and as i ewent past without as much as a growl or a bark it launched itself on my leg, drew blood, so off i go to the police,as we are on the way up the lane a thai lady runs to the cop and says the same dog has bit her 5 year old daughter,. guy in the house says no its not my dog, the cop shot the dog right in front of us.a bit extreme in my opinion but if a dogs a biter,i see no other way ( but id have rather he had had lethal injection instead of lead injection),.

Has the owner offered to pay for your entire series of rabies shots? Did you also get a tetanus booster?

The owner is a Thai lady, and the outcome was a case of 'serves you right'

The dog is well fed, but chained up with no chance to have a walk, as usual they buy the puppy because its so cute, it gets bigger, they cant control it, chain it up, it's angry dog.

What was the saying in the UK? "A dog is for life, not just for Christmas" :o

I'm sorry for all this, Globeliner. Sorry for you as bite hurt the heck out of you. And sorry for the dog, who obvious is made mad by being chained up and, most probably, total inconsistent and unfair treatment.

Cockers are in general quite nervous dogs, and with such a treatment it doesn't take much to make them nuts.

Wishing you a fast recovery,

Nienke

Now, now PB, don't start thinking I'm getting soft on humans. :D I said that the owner should be put down for 2 reasons - the other was cruelty to the dog! I agree 100%, some people should not be allowed near animals, never mind allowed to own them.

I'm of the (very controversial) belief that in order to have responsibility over another living creature (be it a child or an animal) you should have to undergo tests to see if you're suitable. :o

sorry for you having got bitten, hope you recovered well.

never get close/touch a chained dog, even it it seems to be 'friendly' at first.

what options have most dog owners here in thailand? most don't have a closed in garden for the dog to stay in safely, so - chain the dog, lock the dog in a room/cage all day alone while they are out working, let the dog run loose... what is best? i think not getting a dog at all.

I agree that if you can't walk a dog and give it freedom, don't get one, saw a Golden Retriever in BKK about a year ago on my soi, owned by some Thais, never let out of the tiny front yard, just paced up and down all day. :o
