Anutin heads to Ranong to promote medical marijuana

Thai DPM and Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul will be heading south this week on the latest leg of his nationwide tour to promote his baby, medical marijuana. 

 

Ranong health official Dr Norathep Assawapachara said the minister would be in the southern Thai province at the Pichai Rattanakhun school in Muang District on Friday.

 

His visit has created widespread interest in the southern provinces around Ranong where there is already interest in growing marijuana for medical purposes, reported INN.

 

As in other events recently in the north east of Thailand there will be workshops at the event showing how to grow hemp and marijuana as well as it being a showcase for products.

 

Those products include something called "Giant Rarerng Kan" that the minister will be encouraged to add condiments to. It's a play on having fun together and the first syllable of ganja in Thai. 

 

More familiar among the products will be Ganja Cookies.

 

Less familiar are Marijuana Steamed Buns (salapao ganja) and "Cannabis Love Water" (nam rak 'gan').

 

But the reality is that while the products may be tasty no one will be getting 'happy'.

 

Only plants containing 0.2% THC - the drug that makes users stoned - can be grown legally in Thailand.

I can believe the first part of this e.g. "there is already interest in growing marijuana" but possibly for other purposes & best of luck to them ...................LOL

Whilst I am a lifelong advocate and user of the blessed bud, I gotta say this clown is just another in the long line of self-interested politicians whose public duty extends just as far as his hands can reach in order to stuff more baht into his pockets. Such blatant campaigning and not even attempting to act as an official charged with maintaining the health of the nation.

Sickening promotion of something he promises will bring wealth to the nation but in reality will give nothing but confusion.

This is going to get very messy.

Why ?  I am not a user but it is well tolerated in many countries and is a much smaller risk than alcohol consumption and its use rarely sparks unrest . Let the people get stoned if they wish . If Anutin is so concerned , maybe limit the alcohol ( ABV )  to .2% per bottle/serving . That would be the final nail in the coffin for tourism and long stayers . Does he not understand that the open use of marijuana attracts many tourists to countries that permit its use .
