webfact Posted April 27, 2022 Share Posted April 27, 2022 Thai Olympic boxing gold medallist Somrak Khamsing is among 22 election candidates selected to run in north-eastern provinces, as announced today (Wednesday) by the Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP). Party secretary-general Santi Promphat said that Somrak, who was a Thai boxing champion before joining Thailand’s Olympic boxing team, will represent the party in the next election in Constituency 10 of Khon Kaen province. No. A party needs enough core (lower house) MPs (directly elected or party-list), probably 140 - 175, to then form a majority (251) ruling coalition. Yes, the (appointed) Senate remains an insurmountable obstacle to any real governing or change. So a bit of a Kabuki (Khon?) democracy. The PPRP/regime will insure that any rival party is disbanded, or hobbled, pre-election. And if the election result is in question, it will be massaged or invalidated.
